SMX is seeking a driven and talented Linux Engineer to join our thriving Cloud Business Unit department and work with some of the best Architects, Engineers, and Operators in the market. This individual will bring a passion for technology, a strong technical skill set, and an ability to deploy, employ, operate, and sustain Production-ready solutions, software and tools for our customers.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Required Skills and Experience:
- Clearance Required: None; Must be able to obtain a TS/SCI clearance.
- Bachelor's degree and 5+ years of experience
- Interest in working with and learning a wide variety of technologies. Our team works with DevOps technologies, systems automation, configuration management, Linux container technologies (Kubernetes, GitOps workflows), CI/CD pipelines, disaster recovery, performance tuning, and more.
- Linux systems management and analysis experience (RHEL, CentOS, Ubuntu).
- Comfortable administering virtualized environments with VMware vSphere VMs, containers, or similar.
- Experience administering systems in a large-scale setting.
- Excellent customer facing skills and the calm professional demeanor necessary to bolster customer confidence when stress is highest.
- Strong analysis and troubleshooting skills and experience.
Desired Skills and Experience:
- 3+ Years of technical experience.
- Perform basic administration tasks and initial troubleshooting of different Linux distributions.
- Knowledge of the most common OS logs used for troubleshooting problems.
- Troubleshooting of disk space issues and knowledge of the administrative tasks required to address these problems.
- High level understanding of security in Linux (filesystem permissions, etc), may have experience managing users and groups.
- Troubleshooting of booting issues and how to manage services in Linux (SystemV and or SystemD).
- Basic backup and restore concepts (desktops/laptops).
- Have experience installing software using the different package managers.
- Basic understanding of applications such as Apache, NginX, MySQL, etc.
- Troubleshoot performance issues in a single domain using common OS tools such as top, sar and free.
