The Clean Energy Project Lead in Distributed Energy Resource Integration & Management (DERIM) will play a key role in supporting the operational integration and adoption of our GridOS DERMS platform, as well as other operational technologies. This role serves as a critical link between the DERIM team, electric operations, control centers, engineering, clean energy program implementation teams, and our Grid Edge Lab to ensure that DERMS capabilities are aligned with operational needs and incorporated into day-to-day utility operations.

The Project Lead will work across stakeholder groups to develop operating procedures, control strategies, monitoring requirements, business processes, and tools and technologies necessary to support the safe and reliable use of DERs. This individual will collaborate with operation and engineering groups to define future operating models, validate use cases through laboratory testing, and parter with our change management team to enable successful DERMS and other DER-related technology adoption.

The ideal candidate will combine strong utility operational knowledge with exceptional stakeholder engagement skills and has demonstrated success leading complex initiatives requiring coordination across multiple organizations and a deep understanding of policies and procedures.

ResponsibilitiesCore Responsibilities
  • Serve as the primary liaison between Electric Operations, Control Centers, Engineering, customer clean energy program implementation teams (such as Customer Clean Energy Programs, E-Mobility, and Energy Storage), DERIM, and the Grid Edge Lab to ensure alignment of DERMS capabilities with operational needs.
  • Facilitate the development of policies, procedures, operating practices, and governance frameworks required to support DERMS deployment and DER integration.
  • Develop detailed operational use cases and monitoring and control scenarios for validation within the Grid Edge Lab and implementation within the DERMS platform.
  • Prepare presentations and become a subject matter expert in critical DER initiatives and provide high level summaries as needed.
  • Coordinate with Product Owners and Lab Project Lead to ensure operational requirements, business processes, and operator workflows are incorporated into product planning and implementation activities.
  • Collaborate with the Grid Edge Lab team to translate operational needs into test objectives, evaluation criteria, and demonstration scenarios.
  • Support organizational readiness and change management activities to align Electric Operations, Control Centers, Engineering, and other stakeholders with evolving DERMS capabilities and operating models.
  • Develop procedures and operational guidance for the monitoring and control of Distributed Energy Resources to support safe, reliable, and efficient grid operations.
  • Translate business requirements into use cases and associated technical solutions, which may result in DERMS product enhancements, development of in-house tools and technology, or other technological and/or business process solutions.
  • Facilitate workshops, working groups, and cross-functional meetings to build consensus on operational approaches, policies, and future-state business processes.
  • Prepare documents detailing data flows, data requirements, system requirements, integrations & testing plans.
  • Coordinate with IT groups, including Enterprise Technology & Security and Enterprise Architecture.
  • Communicate insights from analytics to business users and decision makers.
  • Perform other related tasks and assignments as required.
  • Ensure implementation of "Company safety, health and environmental programs for employees whose work is directed. Ensure that safe work practices are followed and the environment is fully protected in accordance with Company policy and governmental regulations.

QualificationsRequired Education/Experience
  • Bachelor's Degree and a minimum of 4 years relevant experience. or
  • Master's Degree and a minimum of 3 years relevant experience.
Preferred Education/Experience
  • Master's Degree preferably in Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related quantitative field and 3 years related work experience in a system engineering/analysis area.
Relevant Work Experience
  • Experience developing or implementing operating policies, procedures, or business processes is required.
  • Knowledge of electric utility operations and control center functions is required.
  • Experience leading cross-functional initiatives involving operations, engineering, and technology organizations is required.
  • Very strong interpersonal and written and oral communication skills are required. Public speaking and presentation experience and skills are required.
  • Experience developing operational use cases, workflows, or operating scenarios is required.
  • Experience presenting recommendations to technical and leadership audiences is required.
  • Familiarity with renewable technology and Distributed Energy Resources is required.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams is required.
  • Experience producing formal documentation is required.
  • Ability to communicate technical information to technical and non-technical audiences is required.
  • Familiarity with operational systems, including SCADA, and communication protocols is preferred.
  • Experience with software implementation, including writing and executing test protocols, is preferred.
  • Familiarity with cybersecurity requirements related to operational technology systems is preferred.
  • Experience with utility field construction, electrical equipment, protection systems, or commissioning activities is preferred.
  • Experience working in a lab environment, including planning and troubleshooting test setups, is preferred.
