The Claims Coverage Legal Assistant provides administrative support to the Claims Coverage Counsel team by reviewing coverage opinion and position letter requests, preparing documents for attorney use, and assisting with related correspondence. Proofreads and formats formal coverage opinions and letters, supports the internal review process, and ensures completed work is finalized, distributed, tracked, and archived. Maintains diaries, confirms needed policy forms and outstanding information are obtained to support timely coverage reviews, and assists with letter templates, training materials, coverage resources, electronic files, spreadsheets, work tracking systems, presentations, reports, and other assigned projects.
Essential Functions:
- Responsible for initial review of referrals assigned to Claims Coverage Counsel team, preparing initial documents used by assigned attorneys to prepare coverage opinions.
- Reviews claim file materials and relevant policies to set up initial document using template or other resources.
- Confirms the relevant policy information is complete, accurate and available, requesting additional information as needed.
- Summarizes pleadings or other information as directed.
- Assists in the preparation of coverage position letters based upon coverage opinions and/or direction by assigned attorney.
- Proofreads, edits and formats coverage opinions and coverage position letters.
- Organizes and monitors internal team review process so that work product is timely completed, ensuring accuracy of coverage opinions and letters sent to claims professionals.
- Communicates with claims professionals regarding coverage referrals.
- Files completed opinions and letters in electronic filing system and closes assignments, maintaining organization and oversight of archives.
- Creates and updates spreadsheets and work product trackers to catalog team coverage assignments.
- Diaries and monitors deadlines. Assists with the analysis of data and calculation of statistics from spreadsheets or other team trackers as requested.
- Assists with the creation of templates and materials used in coverage training presentations.
- Organizes and updates research archives and other overage resources.
- Prepares content for team intranet site and assists with updates.
- Assists with additional projects as assigned.
Education & Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalency
- Five years of legal administrative experience
- Bachelor’s degree preferred
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Strong knowledge of legal terminology and formatting legal documents
- Strong computer skills, including knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Excellent organization and multitasking skills
- Strong analytical and research skills
The hiring salary range for this position will vary based on geographic location, falling within either of the following:
$55,795 - $77,098 or $61,659 - $84,778A hiring range represents a subset of the full salary range. The actual salary will depend on several factors, including relevant education, skills, and experience of an applicant, geographic location, and business needs.
