Job Description
A Chopper Gun Operator sprays layers of fiberglass and resin to hull and decks. This role requires attention to detail and technical skills in operating spray equipment
Qualifications
Key Responsibilities:
- Able to identify the different hulls and decks to be laminated.
- Mixing resins and catalysts to the correct ratios
- Operating the chopper gun to apply fiberglass and resin mixtures evenly over the mold
- Adjust spray settings to achieve the desired thickness and finish.
- Inspect applied layers for uniformity and thickness.
- Performing touch-ups and repairs as needed to ensure a smooth finish.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Proficiency in setting up, operating, and maintaining chopper guns.
- Ability to mix resins and catalysts to the correct ratios.
- Skills in cleaning and preparing molds and surfaces before applying fiberglass.
- Knowledge of proper spraying techniques to ensure an even and smooth finish
- Ability to apply fiberglass evenly and accurately to avoid defects.
Education and Experience:
- High School Diploma or equivalent level of training
- Some knowledge of FRP and composites
- Knowledge of production process and quality control
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to work in a non-climate-controlled environment where ambient air temperature can exceed outside air temperature occasionally.
- Must be able to bend at waist and knees and stand for extended periods of time.
- Must be able to climb into and out of the interior of boats.
- Must be able to wear respirator.
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds when necessary.
- Be able to drive a forklift when necessary.
- Keep the work area clean and orderly.
- This is a safety-sensitive position.
