Description

Northpointe is a Community Mental Health (CMH) organization providing services to individuals with serious mental illness, emotional disturbance, substance abuse disorders, and intellectual/developmental disabilities across Iron, Dickinson, and Menominee counties in the UP of Michigan. Northpointe itself was established in 1995 but has roots as a CMH dating back to 1964. Our presence can be found through remote emergency services, in school and home-based programs, and in clinical and residential home settings.

Job Purpose

We are looking for a passionate, driven individual to join our team as a Children's Crisis Specialist serving Menominee County Schools and based at our office in Menominee, Michigan.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Duties

  • Conducts emergency assessment and triage of psychiatric emergencies either in person or by telephone.
  • Models crisis intervention skills/de-escalation techniques for school staff and parents when necessary.
  • Develops a safety plan of service with provision for linkages to other services based on the needs of the individual.
  • Participates in the development of school safety plans as requested.
  • Links individual and individual’s family to other community resources.
  • Provides educational services to individuals and families about mental illness and recovery.
  • Coordinates with school-based personnel to provide services to deescalate problem behaviors.
  • Continually educates school staff about existing and new policies and procedures that relate to our program and the child/adolescents we serve.
  • Complies with the approved policies/procedures of the agency.
  • Documents and maintains case files according to Northpointe policy and procedures and regulatory and accrediting agencies.
  • Provides for consultation, reporting, coordination and referral to other agency staff and programs, community organizations, or external health care professionals as determined to be clinically appropriate.
  • Provides advocacy for the individual to ensure needs are addressed and rights are protected.
  • Attendance at school-mandated meetings (such as IEPs) as directed by supervisor.
  • Communicates and collaborates with the school staff and resource officer.

Requirements

Education, Certifications, and/or Experience

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • Experience working with individuals with developmental and/or intellectual disability preferred.
  • Experience working in a caregiving role preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license preferred.
  • Certification as a nursing assistant preferred (re-certification required for compensation).
