The Role
The Chief of Staff will partner directly with the CEO to drive company-wide execution, own critical cross-functional initiatives, unblock teams, and establish operating processes. Responsibilities include building onboarding and customer support systems, supporting customers, managing operating cadence and communications, and leading special projects across product, go-to-market, and operations. The role requires independent judgment, strong organization, discretion, strategic thinking, and hands-on execution in a fast-paced, early-stage startup.

What is Custral

Custral exists because a fundamental problem in how modern companies operate has gone largely unsolved.

As companies grow, their customer lifecycle fragments across sales, implementation, support, product, and internal teams. Information is lost, handoffs break down, and customers feel the impact. Most software optimizes for individual functions rather than the system as a whole, which makes this fragmentation worse over time.

Custral is a zero-to-one platform built to solve this holistically. We are rethinking how data, workflows, and ownership work across the full customer lifecycle so that teams can operate as one system rather than a collection of disconnected tools. This is not a narrow vertical solution or an incremental improvement. It is a foundational re-architecture for a massive market.

The team behind Custral is built and funded by people who have lived this problem firsthand. We know it deeply, we are building from first principles, and we are focused on creating something big and enduring.

The Role

We are looking for a Chief of Staff to work directly alongside the CEO and help scale Custral’s execution across the business.

This is a senior, high-trust role for someone who has led teams before, understands how startups and businesses actually operate, and can move fluidly between strategy and execution. You will act as the CEO’s right-hand, owning critical initiatives, unblocking the organization, and ensuring priorities become results.

In the early stages, you will be deeply involved in day-to-day operations. That includes helping stand up onboarding and customer support processes, working directly with customers when needed, and building the internal systems that keep the company running smoothly. Over time, the scope will expand to include cross-functional project leadership, operating cadence, internal communications, and special projects spanning product, go-to-market, and operations.

You will work across every part of the company. There is no narrow lane. This role requires judgment, discretion, and the ability to operate independently with limited context while keeping the CEO and leadership team aligned.

This role is best suited to someone who has held similar roles, thrives on ambiguity, and wants real responsibility and impact in building a company from the ground up.

How to Succeed

You will succeed in this role if you can operate as a force multiplier for the CEO and the team.

In practice, that means:

  • You have held senior or Chief of Staff–like roles before and have led teams directly.

  • You have a deep understanding of how startups and businesses operate across functions.

  • You are comfortable owning ambiguous, cross-functional problems and driving them to resolution.

  • You can switch between strategic thinking and hands-on execution without friction.

  • You have experience building or improving onboarding, support, and internal operating processes.

  • You are highly organized, detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple workstreams at once.

  • You communicate clearly, handle sensitive information with discretion, and exercise strong judgment.

  • You proactively identify gaps, anticipate problems, and solve them before they become blockers.

  • You can work independently with minimal direction while collaborating closely with leadership when needed.

Strong candidates bring structure to chaos, improve how the company operates day-to-day, and consistently free up the CEO to focus on the highest-leverage work.

How we hire

At Custral, we hire only top-tier candidates. We do not optimize for speed or volume, and we do not lower the bar. Every hire is expected to improve the quality of the team and the work materially.

Based on that, we evaluate all candidates through a single lens: can they Deliver Impact Through Excellence

Impact means:

  • Building with the customer in mind and optimizing for meaningful outcomes

  • Communicating with candor and transparency, including healthy debate

  • Prioritizing clarity and focus over unnecessary complexity

  • Being willing to change course or abandon ideas that are not working

  • Thinking big and acting boldly when the opportunity calls for it

  • Paying attention to detail and doing structured, reliable work

Excellence means:

  • Being smart, driven, and startup-minded with a strong sense of ownership

  • Operating with humility and professionalism. No ego is non-negotiable

  • Taking initiative and proactively solving problems without waiting for direction

  • Thinking beyond your immediate work and understanding its broader impact

  • Continuously learning and improving your craft

  • Valuing diversity of thinking to avoid groupthink and build better solutions

We assess these qualities throughout the interview process, not through resume checklists or trick questions.

Our process is deliberate and transparent:

  • 15-minute phone screen to see if there is fit on both sides

  • 30-minute screen focused on experience and thinking

  • 60-minute technical interview relevant to the role

  • Four-hour in-person onsite in our New York City office

Our Culture

Because we hire at the top of the talent curve, we operate with a high degree of trust.

At Custral, freedom and responsibility go hand in hand. We give people the autonomy to do their best work, make decisions, and move quickly, with the expectation that they take full ownership of outcomes. We minimize process for the sake of process and maximize judgment, speed, and accountability.

Custral is a zero-to-one company working on a foundational problem. The work is ambiguous, the bar is high, and the decisions we make early on will compound over the years. That only works with a team that shares a deep sense of ownership and a commitment to quality.

Great work comes from close collaboration and fast feedback. That is why this is a New York–based, in-person role, five days a week. Being in the room matters at this stage, both for execution speed and for building team trust.

This environment is best suited for people who enjoy early-stage work, care deeply about craftsmanship and simplicity, and are comfortable taking responsibility in the absence of perfect information.

It is probably not a good fit if you prefer narrowly scoped tasks, rigid requirements, or a low-intensity environment. That tradeoff is intentional.

Our Offer

Custral is an early-stage startup. The pace is high, the work is demanding, and there will be long days. The tradeoff is real ownership, accelerated learning, and the opportunity to help build something foundational from the ground up.

We offer top-of-market compensation and meaningful upside with the expectation that you are exceptional and willing to put in the work. This is a high-bar environment by design.

For this role, total compensation includes:

  • Base salary: $100,000 – $140,000

  • Equity: 0.5% – 1% (meaningful ownership, early-stage)

  • 401(k): Company match up to 3.5%

Final compensation is determined by experience, impact, and role level, not by tenure or credentials alone.

Benefits and support:

  • Fully covered medical, dental, and vision

  • Monthly health and wellness stipend

  • Free meals for lunch and dinner when working from the office

  • Unlimited PTO, with the expectation that you actually take time off

  • Commuter stipend
