Typical Roles & ResponsibilitiesPartner closely with the CEO, founder, or executive team on company priorities, strategic planning, and decision-making
Drive high-priority, cross-functional initiatives from initial problem definition through execution
Establish and manage company operating rhythms, including leadership meetings, goal-setting, planning, and business reviews
Prepare executive communications, board materials, investor updates, and strategic presentations
Conduct research and analysis to support decisions related to growth, organizational design, product strategy, market expansion, or fundraising
Track company goals, key performance indicators, and critical initiatives to ensure accountability and follow-through
Identify operational gaps and build processes, systems, and workflows that improve organizational effectiveness
Facilitate alignment across functions and help resolve issues that span multiple teams
Support special projects such as fundraising, annual planning, partnerships, hiring, acquisitions, or new market launches
Serve as a trusted thought partner to the CEO or executive team while maintaining discretion and sound judgment
While each startup has unique needs, strong Chiefs of Staff in our network typically have:
5+ years of experience in strategy, operations, consulting, finance, product, business operations, or a related function
Prior experience working in a venture-backed startup, high-growth technology company, consulting firm, investment firm, or similarly fast-paced environment
Demonstrated success leading complex, cross-functional projects with multiple stakeholders
Strong analytical skills and the ability to turn incomplete information into structured recommendations
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including experience preparing executive-level materials
Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple competing priorities
High judgment, discretion, and comfort working with sensitive company information
A low-ego, hands-on operating style and willingness to take ownership beyond a defined job description
Experience working directly with a founder, CEO, or executive leadership team is strongly preferred
Background in finance, consulting, investing, business operations, or product strategy may be helpful, depending on the role
