Job Description

As a Chief of Staff, we are looking for an exceptional, highly organised, and commercially astute Chief of Staff to support a Non-Executive Director who oversees multiple portfolios within a successful, family-owned business group.

This is a trusted partner role, acting as an extension of the NED, ensuring the effective management of priorities, governance activities, stakeholder engagement, and strategic initiatives across a diverse portfolio of businesses. You will provide comprehensive Chief of Staff support, alongside executive-level diary and travel management, requiring discretion, sound judgement, and the ability to anticipate needs before they arise.

You will have strong financial acumen, experience operating in board-level environments, and the confidence to engage with senior leaders, advisers, and stakeholders.

As a Chief of Staff, we are looking for someone to:

Strategic & Chief of Staff Support

  • Serve as a trusted adviser and strategic partner to the NED across multiple business interests and portfolios
  • Act as the primary point of contact for internal and external stakeholders on behalf of the NED
  • Proactively manage priorities, ensuring the NED's time is focused on the highest-value activities
  • Anticipate requirements, identify potential issues or opportunities, and take action before they become critical
  • Support the NED in preparing for board meetings, investor discussions, business reviews, and strategic engagements
  • Track actions, commitments, and key deliverables, ensuring timely follow-up and completion
  • Coordinate projects and initiatives spanning multiple businesses and locations
  • Prepare briefing documents, presentations, reports, and executive summaries for the NED
  • Support with Family Office and matters where required

Board & Governance Support

  • Review, analyse, and summarise board papers, management reports, and financial information
  • Ensure the NED is fully briefed ahead of board and committee meetings
  • Develop concise insights and recommendations from complex business information
  • Track board actions and governance requirements across the portfolio
  • Maintain strict confidentiality regarding commercially sensitive information

Financial & Commercial Support

  • Demonstrate a strong understanding of financial performance, business metrics, and commercial drivers
  • Review financial reports, budgets, forecasts, and management accounts to identify key trends and issues
  • Support the NED in assessing business performance and strategic opportunities
  • Interpret financial and operational data and present findings in an accessible and actionable format
  • Liaise with finance teams, advisers, and senior management as required

Executive Support

  • Manage a complex and dynamic diary across multiple locations and business interests
  • Coordinate meetings, agendas, and key stakeholder engagements
  • Arrange and manage domestic travel logistics, frequently accompanying the NED to sites and meetings across Cheshire and surrounding areas
  • Ensure seamless preparation for all meetings and engagements
  • Handle correspondence and communications on behalf of the NED where appropriate

Stakeholder Management

  • Build trusted working relationships with senior executives, directors, family stakeholders, advisers, and external partners
  • Represent the NED professionally and effectively in interactions with stakeholders
  • Exercise diplomacy, discretion, and sound judgement in all dealings

Qualifications

Essential

  • Significant experience in a Chief of Staff, Executive Assistant, Strategic Business Partner, or similar senior support role
  • Experience supporting C-suite executives, NEDs, business owners, or family office principals
  • Strong financial literacy with the ability to understand and interpret financial reports, management accounts, and board papers
  • Experience working within governance and board environments
  • Exceptional organisational and planning skills
  • Ability to anticipate needs and operate with minimal supervision
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong stakeholder management and influencing capability
  • High levels of discretion, integrity, and professionalism
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel regularly

Desirable

  • Experience within family-owned businesses, family offices, or multi-entity organisations
  • Professional qualification in business, finance, or a related discipline
  • Experience supporting investment, property, or diversified business portfolios

If you feel you have some of the skills mentioned above, but not all, please do still apply and we would be happy to have a further discussion with you in regards to your suitability for the role
