Job Summary

The Chief of Physics provides strategic, clinical, operational, and regulatory leadership for the Radiation Oncology Physics program at Arizona Center for Cancer Care. This position oversees medical physics services, quality assurance, radiation safety, equipment commissioning, compliance, accreditation readiness, and staff development.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Directs and oversees all medical physics activities within the Radiation Oncology Center.
  • Supervises and evaluates medical physicists, dosimetrists and associated staff.
  • Directs the institutional radiation safety program to protect patients, staff and the public.
  • Collaborates with physicians, dosimetrists, therapists, and administrators.
  • Leads accreditation, inspection, and audit preparation.
  • Maintains documentation and ensure operations meet Arizona DHS standards.
  • Oversees compliance with regulatory and accreditation standards.
  • Knowledgeable of Radiation Safety and Compliancy.
  • Develops and manage comprehensive QA programs for radiation treatment planning and delivery equipment.
  • Develops departmental goals, quality initiatives, and strategic plans.
  • Leads QA, equipment commissioning, calibration, and performance monitoring.
  • Supports advanced treatment techniques including IMRT, VMAT, IGRT, and SBRT.
  • Ensures safe and accurate delivery of radiation therapy treatments.
  • Oversees the procurement, acceptance testing, commissioning, and calibration of advanced therapeutic machinery.
  • Supports research, education, and technology implementation.

Qualifications

Qualifications and Educational Requirement

· Master’s degree (MS) or Doctorate (PhD) in Medical Physics or related field required. 

· Minimum seven years of progressive clinical medical physics experience required. 

· Minimum three years of leadership experience required. 

· Advanced knowledge of Siemens-Varian ARIA required; Version 18 or higher preferred.

Licensure and Certifications

  • ABR certification in Therapeutic Medical Physics required. 

Working conditions

  • Works onsite in an office or clinical setting.
  • Exposure to radiation-producing equipment occurs in accordance with established safety practices and regulatory requirements.
  • The role may require participation in on-call support, equipment commissioning, and troubleshooting activities as needed.
  • Emphasizes collaboration with various stakeholders. 
  • Necessitates effective communication and teamwork. 
  • Functions in a fast-paced environment. 
  • May require flexibility in working hours. 
  • Requires adherence to safety protocols and compliance with healthcare regulations. 
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation for travel between locations.

Physical requirements

  • Must be able to lift 25 lbs.  
  • Must be able to sit, stand and walk for extended periods of time. 
  • Must be able to bend, kneel, crawl and twist as needed.
  • Must be able to see, hear, type, and speak.
  • Must be able to reach and pull.

Skills Required

  • Master's degree or Doctorate in Medical Physics or a related field
  • At least seven years of progressive clinical medical physics experience
  • At least three years of leadership experience
  • Advanced knowledge of Siemens-Varian ARIA
  • Siemens-Varian ARIA Version 18 or higher
  • ABR certification in Therapeutic Medical Physics
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation for travel between locations
