Job Description

Link Solutions is seeking a Chief Infrastructure Engineer to support the Army Research Laboratory (ARL) Information Technology Modernization and Support Services program in Adelphi, Maryland.

  • Active Secret clearance, or ability to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance
  • IAT Level II certification or higher per DoD 8570/8140 requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
  • Non-Remote/On-site only (relocation assistance available)

The Chief Infrastructure Engineer serves as the senior technical advisor for enterprise infrastructure modernization and technology strategy supporting the Army Research Laboratory. This position evaluates existing technologies, researches emerging solutions, and develops recommendations that improve operational efficiency, automation, cybersecurity, resilience, and mission effectiveness.

Working across Windows, Linux, and macOS environments, as well as networking, storage, virtualization, endpoint management, identity services, cybersecurity, and cloud technologies, the Chief Infrastructure Engineer provides technical analysis, modernization strategies, cost-benefit assessments, and expert guidance to Government leadership and engineering teams.

This role requires deep enterprise infrastructure expertise combined with strong analytical and communication skills. The successful candidate will assist technical leaders in solving complex infrastructure challenges, evaluating emerging technologies, and identifying innovative solutions that support long-term organizational objectives.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the senior technical advisor on enterprise infrastructure modernization, engineering, and technology strategy initiatives.
  • Evaluate existing infrastructure, operational processes, and technology implementations to identify opportunities for modernization, automation, efficiency improvements, and cost savings.
  • Research and assess emerging technologies, industry trends, and vendor solutions relevant to DoD, research, and enterprise environments.
  • Develop technical assessments, business cases, cost-benefit analyses, and technology recommendations for Government leadership.
  • Analyze and evaluate technologies across Windows, Linux, and macOS platforms; identity services; networking; storage; virtualization; endpoint management; cybersecurity; and cloud environments.
  • Develop modernization roadmaps and strategic recommendations aligned with mission, security, operational, and budget requirements.
  • Assist infrastructure and engineering teams in troubleshooting complex technical issues and resolving enterprise-wide challenges.
  • Participate in architecture reviews, engineering assessments, and technology evaluation efforts.
  • Review proposed technical solutions and provide recommendations regarding feasibility, scalability, security, supportability, and operational impact.
  • Identify opportunities to leverage automation, orchestration, Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC), AI-enabled technologies, and process improvements to increase operational effectiveness.
  • Support cybersecurity initiatives by evaluating technologies against RMF, Continuous ATO, Zero Trust, STIG, and vulnerability management requirements.
  • Develop technical white papers, decision briefs, recommendations, and executive presentations for Government stakeholders.
  • Present findings, recommendations, risks, and modernization strategies to Government and contractor leadership.
  • Maintain awareness of emerging technologies and industry best practices to support continuous improvement and innovation.

Compensation Range: 

  • $135,000 - $175,000
  • Full-Time (Mon-Fri)

Several factors influence the final salary or hourly rate, including but not limited to contract wage determinations, relevant work experience, role-specific skills and competencies, geographic location, educational background, certifications, and federal government contract labor categories.

Qualifications

  • U.S. Citizen.
  • Active Secret Clearance or ability to obtain and maintain a Secret Clearance.
  • IAT Level II certification (CompTIA Security+ CE or higher equivalent) in accordance with DoD 8570/8140 requirements.
  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or related technical discipline.
  • Twelve (12+) years of progressive experience supporting, engineering, architecting, or modernizing enterprise IT environments.
  • Experience conducting technology assessments, architecture reviews, infrastructure analyses, and modernization planning activities.
  • Strong knowledge of enterprise Windows, Linux, and macOS environments.
  • Experience with Active Directory, identity and access management, networking, storage, virtualization, endpoint management, and cloud technologies.
  • Familiarity with enterprise platforms such as Nutanix, VMware, Microsoft Intune, MECM/SCCM, Jamf Pro, Apple Business Manager, Microsoft Entra ID, or equivalent technologies.
  • Experience developing technical recommendations, business cases, cost-benefit analyses, and executive-level briefings.
  • Knowledge of automation, scripting, Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC), and operational efficiency best practices.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and assist in resolving complex infrastructure and technology challenges.
  • Strong analytical, written, verbal, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills.

Preferred:

  • Experience supporting DoD, Federal, research, laboratory, or scientific computing environments.
  • Experience developing technology roadmaps, modernization strategies, digital transformation initiatives, or infrastructure optimization plans.
  • Experience presenting technical analyses, recommendations, and investment strategies to senior Government leadership.
  • Experience evaluating cloud, automation, AI-enabled operations, observability, Zero Trust, and next-generation infrastructure technologies.
  • Experience with Microsoft Azure, AWS, Nutanix, VMware, Intune, MECM/SCCM, Jamf Pro, or similar enterprise technologies.
  • Advanced certifications such as CISSP, CCSP, Azure Solutions Architect, AWS Solutions Architect, RHCE, Nutanix NCP, CCNP, VMware VCP, or ITIL.
  • Excellent executive briefing, facilitation, and stakeholder engagement skills.
