Angott Search Group is pleased to partner with a $385MM credit union in the Great Lakes Region in the search for a Chief Executive Officer (CEO).

The CEO is responsible for the overall leadership, strategic direction, and performance of the credit union. This executive role oversees financial strength, regulatory compliance, operational excellence, and organizational growth while developing a high-performing team, fostering a strong culture, and representing the credit union with members, the community, regulators, and key partners.

The CEO will work closely with the Board of Directors to execute the credit union’s strategic vision, ensure sound governance, and advance long-term organizational goals.

Responsibilities:

  • Promote, protect, and model the credit union’s mission, core values, culture, and service expectations.
  • Provide executive leadership across all functions of the credit union, ensuring alignment, accountability, and strong organizational performance.
  • Collaborate with the Board of Directors to support governance, strategic planning, and long-term priorities.
  • Execute the credit union’s strategic plan and major initiatives while ensuring cross-functional alignment and measurable progress.
  • Lead, develop, and hold the Executive Leadership Team accountable for results, talent development, collaboration, and operational execution.
  • Develop and present operating and capital expenditure budgets aligned with the credit union’s strategic objectives.
  • Evaluate organizational performance and provide the Board with timely updates regarding results, risks, opportunities, and strategic initiatives.
  • Oversee budget planning, resource allocation, expense management, and financial performance.
  • Analyze operating results and implement strategies to address performance gaps and improve outcomes.
  • Provide oversight of financial, operational, and statistical reporting to support informed decision-making.
  • Establish appropriate levels of authority and accountability throughout the organization.
  • Oversee senior leadership decisions and address issues impacting organizational effectiveness, culture, and performance.
  • Represent the credit union with members, community organizations, regulators, government agencies, industry partners, and professional associations.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable federal and state regulations, internal policies, enterprise risk management practices, and sound internal controls.
  • Keep the Board informed of significant matters impacting the credit union, including performance, strategic opportunities, risks, regulatory matters, audits, security, and personnel developments.
  • Lead or support due diligence and negotiations related to mergers, acquisitions, partnerships, or strategic opportunities.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable requirements related to the U.S. Patriot Act, Bank Secrecy Act, OFAC, and the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act.

Qualifications:

  • Significant executive leadership experience within financial services, preferably within a credit union or community banking environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead complex organizations, manage competing priorities, and deliver measurable results.
  • Strong financial acumen with experience overseeing budgets, financial performance, and organizational strategy.
  • Proven ability to build credibility and maintain effective relationships with Board members, employees, regulators, members, and community partners.
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to inspire and lead teams while fostering a strong culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Commitment to the credit union philosophy of “people helping people” and making a meaningful impact for members and the community.
  • Strong public speaking, presentation, and stakeholder engagement skills.

Skills Required
