About the Role
As Chief Engineer, you will lead the Technical Airworthiness Group (TAG), providing enterprise-wide direction and oversight for engineering, airworthiness, and technical innovation. This role ensures compliance, manages airworthiness risk, supports product and repair development, and advances the capabilities needed to maintain competitiveness and support business growth.
TAG enables technical excellence through governance of engineering standards, failure investigations, training and development, and the application of new technologies across the organization.
What You’ll Do
- Provide enterprise leadership for engineering, airworthiness risk management, failure investigation, and technical standards
- Propose and lead strategic initiatives, securing executive alignment and resources
- Contribute to strategic planning, budgeting, and performance outcomes; manage the TAG annual budget
- Communicate progress, results, and risks to senior leaders and key stakeholders
- Support business units in technical engagements with regulators, OEMs, and external authorities
- Establish and maintain engineering procedures, standards, and personnel qualifications impacting compliance and airworthiness
- Lead and develop a team of engineering leaders and professionals, including hiring, performance management, and succession planning
- Promote and enable technical innovation, including new technologies, repair development, and process improvements
- Represent StandardAero in industry forums and regulatory engagements
- Support approvals, certifications, and continued operation of design organizations (DOA, DAO, ODA)
- Lead or support special projects as assigned
Flight Safety & Airworthiness Accountability
Flight Safety is our highest priority. Under StandardAero’s Safety Management System (SMS), the Chief Engineer will:
- Promote a strong flight safety culture across engineering and business teams
- Take timely and appropriate action on airworthiness concerns
- Monitor organizational risk related to engineering workload, capability, and proficiency
- Establish standards for identification and control of safety-critical parts and processes
- Define criteria for continued airworthiness risk assessment
- Act in alignment with the company’s Just Culture policy
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace or Mechanical Engineering
- Professional Engineer registration (P.Eng. or PE)
- Minimum 15 years’ experience in an aeronautical maintenance or manufacturing environment
- Strong leadership, planning, analytical, and communication skills
- In-depth knowledge of civil aviation regulations, OEM ICA’s, and regulatory standards
- Deep technical expertise in powerplant MRO processes, mechanical design, failure analysis, metallurgy, and turbine engine theory
- Specialized training in Airworthiness Engineering or Certification (preferred)
- Authorization to work in Canada and/or the United States
Preferred Experience
- Prior experience working with Civil Aviation Authorities on repair or design approval data
- Extensive product knowledge, including component inspection, distress, and failure mechanisms
- Working knowledge of project management practices
- Experience with ERP and engineering systems used in maintenance and operational control
