Skills, Knowledge and Expertise
The Chief Engineer must possess thorough knowledge of company policies, SOLAS, MARPOL, and flag state regulations. Proficiency in marine engineering, electrical systems, automation, troubleshooting, and planned maintenance is essential. Competence in risk assessment, emergency management, fuel efficiency, waste management, and reporting procedures is required, along with strong analytical, problem-solving, and leadership skills. The role demands effective communication, team coordination, and adaptability to modern technology and software.
Experience: Demonstrates leadership in developing technical and soft skills within the engineering team. Has strong analytical abilities, consistently overseeing the vessel’s engineering systems to ensure optimal performance. Successfully balances commercial objectives with a high priority on safety, fully understanding the importance of environmental compliance. Exhibits high reliability in urgent situations, ensuring the safety and security of the vessel and crew through decisive actions.
