The National Security Sector at Leidos is hiring for a Chief Engineer. You will develop highly innovative solutions to resolve complex problems involving limited and disparate information through the application of technical knowledge, conceptualizing, reasoning and interpretation, and integration of best practices.
What you’ll be doing:
- Develop highly innovative solutions to resolve complex problems involving limited and disparate information through the application of technical knowledge, conceptualizing, reasoning and interpretation, and integration of best practices.
- Serve as a technical SME driving technical execution across the program. Directly interface with customers, PM, and technical teams to understand requirements, develop solutions, and ensue program technical execution.
- Support as a thought leader and SME for the program, new business pursuits, on-contract growth initiatives, and modernization across Agency and Leidos initiatives.
- Provide subject matter expertise across the Cyber domain in a diverse technical architecture including on prem and hybrid multi-cloud environments.
- Advise and support engineering requirements of large-scale cyber systems, major elements, and interfacing systems that are part of a complex network with geographically distributed components.
- Drive thought leadership through inclusion, collaboration, and mentorship of technical talent across the program.
- Provide technical contribution to program efforts in several areas, including cost management/avoidance, schedule estimation and tracking, contract performance management, risk management, requirements analysis, and quality assurance activities.
- Support business development and capture teams to identify, qualify, shape, solution, and pursue opportunities as well as stand up and execution of program activities.
- Provide support for various government engagements at all levels, supporting challenges faced in operations, innovations, and executive level briefings.
- Ensures quality products and services are delivered, supporting and contributing to governing bodies (e.g., CCB, ERB, IDR, Technical Design Reviews, AAR Reviews, etc.).
- Visit the various sites in the DMV area to meet with customer and the technical team.
- Mentor and coach our technical staff.
What does Leidos need from me?
- Active Top Secret/SCI (TS/SCI) clearance with ability to obtain Polygraph.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering, Science, or Technology or related technical area and 15 plus years of total experience including the training, qualifications, experience, and clearances to accomplish all tasks identified above.
- Requires CISSP or other DoD 8570 IAT III certification.
- Demonstrated background in Cyber automation, and related technologies as they are applied to large Wide Area Networks, Cloud Hosting, Multi-cloud Operations, Defensive Cyber Operations, and Data Center Operations.
- Experience with Network Operation Center, Defensive Cyber Operations, and Data Center operational processes.
- Breadth of experience and/or expertise in NOC Operations, System Architecture, Cloud Architecture, Cyber Security Incident Handling and Countermeasures, Wide Area Networks, SATCOM, Optical Technologies, IP/MPLS networking, Service Delivery, and ‘as a Service’ models.
- Proven track record of critical thinking and developing creative problem and hard problem solutions with a focus on outcome-based delivery of meaningful innovations.
- Experience identifying, developing, and implementing engineering change solutions with new technology and solutions on a large enterprise/national scale.
- Experience with large programs, and performing technology assessments, trade studies, analysis of alternatives, and creating capability roadmaps.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a customer environment collaboratively through constraints to meet mission milestones.
- Excellent written and oral communications skills and management to include presentation and experience discussing technology at large government agency CIO/CTO executive level as well as at the technical working level.
- Self-motivated and focused on delivering outcomes with the ability to work independently and in teams.
- Experience leading the development of solutions for proposals, writing white papers, RFI responses.
Favorable if you have:
- Model Based Systems Engineering (MBSE).
- Cloud certification.
- DoD 8570 Cyber Security Service Provider certification such as CEH.
- DoD 8570 IASAE III certification: ISSAP, ISSEP, or CCSP.

Pay Range:Pay Range $148,850.00 - $269,075.00
The Leidos pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other law.
