POSITION SUMMARY:

Coaches members towards a healthier lifestyle in a one on one setting while providing the Y experience.  

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Provides individualized in depth training regimen to assist members in reaching their fitness goals. 

  • Builds effective, authentic relationships with members and guests; helps them connect with each other and the YMCA.

  • Administers fitness evaluations for members (upon request) which include body composition, cardiorespiratory fitness, flexibility, muscular strength and muscular endurance.  

  • Records data accurately after each session in Personal Training Log and Individual’s Log

  • Embrace fitness lifestyle and endeavor to increase fitness knowledge. 

  • Works as a wellness coach on the fitness floor as needed per branch. 

  • Attends staff meetings and training as scheduled.

  • Follows all YMCA policies, rules, regulations and procedures, including emergency and safety procedures. Completes incident and accident reports as necessary.

  • Takes on any additional responsibility as assigned by the director/coordinator 

  • Adhere to policies related to boundaries with consumers
  • Attend/complete required abuse risk management training before working with consumers and on an annual basis.
  • Adhere to procedures related to managing high-risk activities and supervising consumers
  • Follow mandated reporting requirements
  • Adhere to job specific abuse risk management responsibilities

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Certifications: Current National Personal Training certification through one of the following: Y-USA, ACSM, AFFA, ACE, NASM, ISSA.

  • Minimum of 1 year of experience preferred

  WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Ability to perform all physical aspects of the position, including lifting, carrying, pulling, standing and walking.  (up to 50 lbs.)

  • Ability to safely and effectively “spot” personal training clients up to clients working one rep max weight.  (weight will vary with client)

  • Ability to speak concisely and effectively communicate.

  • Visual and auditory ability to respond to critical situations and physical ability to act swiftly in an emergency.

 

Skills Required

  • Current national personal training certification (Y-USA, ACSM, AFFA, ACE, NASM, ISSA)
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience
  • Ability to perform physical aspects of job including lifting/carrying/pulling/standing/walking (up to 50 lbs.)
  • Ability to safely spot clients, including clients working one-rep max
  • Ability to communicate concisely and effectively (verbal)
  • Complete required abuse risk management training before working with consumers and annually; follow mandated reporting and related procedures
  • Administer fitness evaluations and accurately record results in training logs
