The CG Supervisor is responsible for overseeing all VFX shot production elements for stop motion feature films and is the key collaborator in realizing the creative vision of the Director by enhancing plate photography with 3D assets and lighting.

Job Functions
  • Oversee all phases of VFX shot production under the guidance of the VFX Supervisor and the Director, and partner with VFX teams to evaluate and achieve technical and creative solutions for shot production.
  • Partner with VFX teams to comprehensively launch, review, and approve digital assets and shots.
  • Establish key approval milestones for character and environment assets and reinforce creative and qualitative expectations.
  • Advise Digital Pipeline department on tool requirements, troubleshoot errors, and flag workflow obstacles to production leadership.
  • Consult with VFX Leads to inform bids, performance, look, and finish for asset and shot production.
  • Present asset and shot work to the Director, disseminate notes, and actively manage kickbacks to improve quality of artist work.
  • Build a holistic view from assets (character, hard surface, and organic builds) to effects elements, animation, crowds, lighting, and how compositing will be used.
  • Partner with production management on asset task bidding, scheduling, and load distribution to ensure artists have necessary task information at launch.
  • Oversee crowds, CFX, FX, and lighting in sequences and work closely with VFX teams to ensure tasks are completed on schedule and quality standards are met.
  • Follow progress of all shot-based tasks, facilitate their completion, and determine when they are ready for publishing and/or additional reviews.
  • Provide creative and technical solutions to address shot production concerns and proactively work to minimize their impact.
  • Participate in technology-related meetings and advise on priorities, tool, and pipeline development.
  • Proactively seek industry innovations to streamline workflows and participate in testing and implementation.
  • Oversee design and execution of shot-based documentation and training materials.
Qualifications
  • 10+ years of CG or VFX production experience using Maya, Houdini, Renderman, and Katana on live-action TV or feature films.
  • Strong communication skills; ability to convey complex ideas to creative partners.
  • Strong understanding of VFX production pipeline, with emphasis on shot-based workflows with a focus on CG work from on-set capture to compositing.
  • Experience with Linux (or other Unix) operating systems.
  • Ability to translate concept art and storyboards to define CG deliverables and execute assets for downstream workflows.
  • Ability to delegate, mentor, and manage team members and projects in an active production environment.
