Chewy is seeking a Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH)!

You will provide training and mentorship, and ensure flawless adherence to regulatory standards. You will support our Core, Rx, and Chewy Vet Care Network, collaborating closely with operations, engineering, legal, and HR teams to successfully implement these programs.
What you'll do
  • Develop and implement industrial hygiene policies, programs, and procedures in alignment with regulatory requirements and industry standard methodologies.
  • Conduct comprehensive risk assessments to identify potential hazards related to zoonotic diseases, pharmaceuticals, and ergonomic factors.
  • Analyze work processes, equipment, and chemical usage to resolve potential health and safety risks.
  • Implement control measures to minimize exposure to hazardous substances, including the development of protocols for safe handling and disposal.
  • Advise on the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) and ensure its availability and accurate usage while conducting assessments and audits.
  • Supervise and assess air quality within practices and facilities, ensuring adequate ventilation systems are in place.
  • Recommend improvements to ventilation systems to minimize exposure to airborne contaminants.
  • Evaluate noise levels in the workplace and recommend measures to reduce occupational noise exposure.
  • Conduct ergonomic assessments to identify and address physical stressors and recommend ergonomic solutions.
  • Develop and implement hygiene protocols for Team Members to prevent the spread of zoonotic diseases.
  • Educate Team Members on the risks associated with specific tasks and the importance of adherence to safety protocols.
  • Collaborate with Operations, Veterinary, and Pharmacy (Rx) Leadership to integrate safety measures into daily operations.
  • Stay up to date with regulatory requirements, new technologies related to occupational health and safety, and recommend vital updates to policies and procedures.
  • Maintain records and documentation related to occupational health and safety activities, including training, inspections, incidents, and inventory of equipment.
  • Coordinate external audits or inspections related to industrial hygiene and ensure timely completion of any corrective actions required.
  • Serve as a resource and point of contact for Team Members, leadership, and regulatory agencies regarding industrial hygiene safety matters.
What you'll need
  • Bachelor's degree in Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Health and Safety, or a related field or equivalent experience. Master's degree or equivalent experience preferred.
  • Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) is a must requirement.
  • A demonstrated ability in industrial hygiene, preferably in a warehousing, corporate, and medical practice setting.
  • Proficient knowledge of industrial hygiene regulations, standards, and relevant federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Comprehension, program creation, and practical application of: Combustible dust sampling, pharmaceutical dust sampling.
  • Detailed understanding and knowledge of: 503b compounding pharmacy operations, lab equipment, air sampling, and cabinet certification as well as NFPA 654, USP 800, 796, and 795.
  • Ability to analyze drawings to mitigate future risk in sophisticated operations.
  • Strong understanding of world class manufacturing practices in a pharmaceutical operation.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
  • Experience in developing and implementing radiation safety programs.
  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently under pressure while handling challenging demands and tight deadlines.
  • Experience leading change in multiple practice environments.
  • Must be willing to travel up to 75%.
