The Certified Diabetes Educator participates in the development, implementation, and evaluation of diabetes education programs throughout Kelsey-Seybold Clinic
Primary Responsibilities:
- 5% Collaborates with physicians, Health Services Coordinators, and nursing staff to identify patient populations requiring intensive patient education programs
- 5% Assists in staff education related to diabetes
- 5% Works with Marketing Department and Health Promotion to develop custom patient education materials and other marketing activities. Collaborates with Patient Services, Nutritional Services, the Foundation and other areas as needed
- 10% Ensures clinic site compliance with organizational, professional, regulatory and governmental standards of care. Translates and implements changes needed with the clinic site to promote clinic compliance with regulatory standards. Determines the intent of standards as they are related to clinic operations and initiates planning and interventions designed to meet them within specified time frames. Stays current with national specialty standards and promotes professionalism through participation in professional organizations and/or utilization of literature
- 10% Establishes, maintains, and monitors diabetes education programs throughout the clinic
- 40% Provides direct teaching and/or management of high-risk patients with diabetes in accordance with an endocrinologist established algorithms
- 10% Ensures delivery of safe and efficient care. Reviews with health service coordinators perceived problems in patient education resources, staff education needs, resource availability, patient transition problems, financial data, multidisciplinary team functioning and patient and family expectations. Addresses infection control data to determine effect on complications and initiates controls within the environment to decrease/stabilize this factor. Validates with responsible physicians that care provided to patients is consistent with identified medical regimens. Collaborates with various ancillary services to assure appropriate supplies, equipment, laundry, pharmaceutical and computer-related issues and items are available to clinic site at all times for smooth and efficient patient care delivery
- 2% Attends Diabetes Committee meetings and other meetings as assigned
- 10% Functions as a Case Manager for Diabetes patients. Selects vendors of educational materials and obtains approval from clinic experts
- 3% Performs other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications:
- RN
- CDE and RN
- 2+ years of related clinical experience, patient education, program development
- Proven excellent Written and verbal communication skills
- Proven excellent organizational skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's and/or Master's Degree
- Supervisory/ management experience
Pay is based on several factors including but not limited to local labor markets, education, work experience, certifications, etc. In addition to your salary, we offer benefits such as, a comprehensive benefits package, incentive and recognition programs, equity stock purchase and 401k contribution (all benefits are subject to eligibility requirements). The salary for this role will range from $60,200 to $107,400 annually based on full-time employment. We comply with all minimum wage laws as applicable.
