About the role

Tensec is looking for an experienced and visionary fintech leader to build a world-class team in Mexico, cater to our existing local clients and drive our growth strategy and operational excellence in the region. This strategic role reports to the Co-Founder and Global Chief Executive Officer and requires an experienced leader with a deep understanding of financial technology, financial operations, local regulatory compliance, and foreign exchange markets to ensure seamless, compliant, and customer-focused cross-border payment processes. 

The Mexico Country Manager/CEO will play a pivotal role in positioning the company as the leading cross-border payment solution for SMBs in Mexico and will drive Tensec’s vision while ensuring profitability, market competitiveness, and alignment with the global strategy. This role is for those fintech leaders with excellent management skills and driven by the thrill of creating something new, the excitement of uncertainty, and the ambition to redefine an industry. 

Location: Mexico City or Monterrey

Positions in our hubs are hybrid and include core working days of Tuesday and Wednesday in the office. We provide flexible work options based on distance from our hubs. Tensec believes in the power of face-to-face, personal connection. As a result, we prioritize in-person candidates.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Leadership & Market Growth

    • Develop and execute the country-specific strategy in alignment with the company’s global vision and objectives.

    • Identify and pursue new business opportunities, partnerships, and strategic alliances to enhance market share and revenue growth.

    • Act as the primary spokesperson for the company in Mexico, representing the brand at industry events, conferences, and with the media.

  • Customer and Partner Relationships

    • Build and nurture strong relationships with key customers, ensuring a deep understanding of their needs and helping them succeed with Tensec.

    • Collaborate with banking partners, financial institutions, and payment networks to enhance product offerings and improve service delivery.

  • Financial and Operational Management

    • Own and drive the country’s P&L, ensuring sustainable growth, profitability, and cost efficiency.

    • Set and achieve financial targets, including revenue, EBITDA, and market share goals.

    • Oversee the day-to-day operations to ensure optimal performance and seamless service delivery to customers.

  • Regulatory Compliance & Risk Management

    • Ensure strict adherence to all local regulatory and legal requirements, including AML, KYC, and data privacy regulations.

    • Maintain proactive relationships with local regulatory bodies and ensure timely reporting and compliance audits.

  • Team Leadership & Culture Building

    • Build, develop, and lead a high-performing, diverse, and motivated team across functions such as sales, operations, compliance, and customer support.

    • Foster a culture of accountability, innovation, and customer-centricity within the organization.

    • Actively mentor and develop leadership talent within the country team to ensure a strong succession pipeline.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Business Administration, or a related field (MBA preferred).

  • 10+ years of leadership experience in the financial services or fintech industry, with a strong background in global transaction banking or cross-border payments.

  • Deep understanding of the Mexican financial ecosystem, including regulatory frameworks and payment systems. 

  • Experience in high-growth fintechs, ideally in companies focused on cross-border financial services.

  • Has built and managed high-performance teams.

  • Strong Business Development background.

  • Fluency in English and Spanish (both verbal and written).

  • Great to have: product background; nearshoring experience.
