Position Summary:

The Certified Nursing Assistant provides nursing and nursing related services to residents consistent with each resident's comprehensive resident assessment and plan of care. All resident care is provided in a manner that meets the resident's physical, mental, and psychosocial needs and enables the individual to attain or maintain the highest practicable level of functioning. The Certified Nursing Assistant maintains a "homelike" environment for the residents, protests and promotes resident's rights and assists the person to maintain independence and control to the greatest extent possible.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Performs basic patient care duties such as bathing, feeding and assisting with activities of daily living and designated unsterile procedures such as enemas, sitz bath, intake and output, blood pressures. Responds to patients needs promptly.
  • Makes occupied and unoccupied beds, maintaining an orderly environment. Distributes nourishments.
  • Maintains personal and oral hygiene of patients including hair, nails, mouth, back, etc.
  • Provides direct care to residents to improve or maintain the resident's abilities according to the resident's plan of care.
  • Assists with the planning, implementation and evaluation of plans of care for assigned residents and reports information about conditions, responses to interventions and suggestions for alternative approaches to the Unit Charge Nurse. Documents and revises the resident's "FYI" record as needed.
  • Follows all facility policies and procedures including those related to infection control. Uses personal protective equipment properly whenever indicated. Follows the policies of Universal Precautions.

  • Ability to recognize changes in residents' conditions as evidenced by physical symptoms, verbal expression or observation of changes in mental or psychosocial status.
  • Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment.
  • Ability to maintain a clean and well-groomed personal appearance and report to work in the uniform required by the facility.

Qualifications Required

Education:

  • High School graduate of GED in order to gain knowledge of basic patient care methods, procedures and training.
  • Successful completion of a nurse aide training and competency evaluation program approved by the State, within 4 months of date of hire; or successful completion of a State approved nurse aide training and competency evaluation program and no break in service of 24 months or longer.
  • Acceptable verification of training and competency evaluation from the State Nurse Aide Registry concerning abuse, neglect, mistreatment of residents or misappropriation of resident's property.

Experience:

  • Prior experience giving personal care to impaired individuals in a health care setting preferred.

Physical Requirements:

  • Requires repeated motions of pulling, pushing, bending, stooping, lifting, and supporting while on duty. Will be predominantly standing during work performance.
  • Ability to lift and position patients of various heights and weights.
  • No lifting restrictions.

Skills Required
