CDN Engineer

Thousands of engineers globally are shaping this platform, and our Prague tech hub is a key part of that effort. But we don’t just keep the engine running—we push the tech boundaries of what’s possible, alongside teams from Lisbon, London, and New York. Here in Prague, we have teams specializing in frontend development (including mobile, TV, and web), backend development (Java), DevOps & Platform Engineering, AWS, and data science. 

What is the plot?   

As our CDN Engineer, you’ll join the Content Delivery Engineering team within NBCUniversal’s Global Video Engineering organization. Your mission is to help deliver outstanding VOD, live event, and linear streaming experiences to millions of viewers across our US, UK, EU, and Africa services—including Peacock, SkyShowtime, Showmax, and NOW/WOW. 

You’ll collaborate daily with colleagues and vendors across the US, UK, and beyond - excellent written and spoken English is essential. Our team specializes in large-scale Multi-Content Delivery Network design and operations, performance telemetry and analytics, selection & interfacing with content origins via multiple workflows, dynamic ad insertion, manifest manipulation and integrating new player technologies. 

What role will you play? 

• Design new and optimize existing content delivery designs to boost performance, improve resilience and expand features for our products and services. 

• Focus on using log analysis and observability systems to troubleshoot, diagnose issues and drive in-depth analysis for rapid resolutions.   

• Ensure diligent peer review of changes, contributing to our goal of improving reliability and reducing incidents. 

• Bring your rigor and insight to the development of our functional and non-functional test methods and procedures. 

• Create and maintain operations runbooks and checklists for our production delivery.  

• Participate in on-call rotation to resolve operational issues and performance degradation. 

• Attain a comprehensive, technical understanding of how all NBCUniversal's streaming products and associated technologies operate. 

What skills do you need to play your role well? 

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a relevant field is preferred. 

• Minimum three years of experience creating and/or managing complex CDN or web server/proxy configurations. Full CDN training will be provided if required. 

• Sound understanding and use of TCP/IP, IPv4/v6, DNS, HTTP, TLS and load balancing in production. 

• Experience with Iac technologies such as Terraform, Ansible and Cloud Formation. 

• Hands-on experience with cloud-based networking, firewall, security and data products. 

• Skilled with using software repositories, CI/CD pipelines and writing test automation. 

• Expertise with scaled, distributed performance testing / functional & non-functional 

• Use of automation, scripting and/or programming to solve problems and reduce effort. 

• Well versed, working with SRE teams & technologies to assist safe, consistent technology operations. 

• Ability to work effectively in a distributed, multi-cultural team, collaborating across time zones.
