CDL Class A Short Haul

The Short Haul CDL Class A Driver is responsible for the safe and efficient transportation of freight between customer locations, distribution centers, and company facilities within a designated regional area. This position requires the operation of Class A commercial vehicles on public roadways, highways, and interstate routes while maintaining compliance with all DOT regulations and company safety standards. Drivers are assigned short-haul routes designed to ensure they return home daily.

The tasks and responsibilities required CDL Class A Short-Haul Driver are outlined below:

• Safely operate Class A commercial vehicles on public roadways, highways, and interstate routes in accordance with all DOT regulations and company policies.
• Transport freight between customer locations, warehouses, distribution centers, and company facilities using designated public roadways and transportation routes.
• Maintain safe driving practices and awareness of traffic conditions while operating commercial vehicles in urban, suburban, and highway environments.
• Conduct thorough pre-trip and post-trip inspections of tractors and trailers.
• Ensure timely pickup and delivery of freight while maintaining accurate records and documentation.
• Secure and inspect loads to ensure safe transportation.
• Monitor vehicle performance and report maintenance concerns promptly.
• Perform minor vehicle maintenance tasks, including checking and adding fluids as needed.
• Operate refrigerated trailers when required and monitor temperature settings.
• Communicate effectively with dispatch, customers, warehouse personnel, and management regarding delivery status and operational issues.
• Maintain electronic logs, trip reports, and other required documentation using onboard technology and mobile applications.
• Adhere to all safety, quality, and customer service standards.
• Assist with trailer moves and equipment positioning as needed.
• Work flexible schedules, including occasional weekends and overtime as business needs require.
• Maintain a professional appearance and represent Romark positively with customers and the public.
• Perform other duties as assigned. 

The skills and qualifications required for a CDL Class A Short-Haul Driver are outlined below:

• High school diploma or GED preferred
• Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
• Current DOT Medical Card required.
• Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) preferred.
• Minimum of 3 years of Class A driving experience preferred.
• Clean driving record and strong safety performance history.
• Experience operating both manual and automatic transmission vehicles preferred.
• Ability to sit, stand, walk, climb, bend, and reach throughout the workday
• Experience with refrigerated trailers is a plus.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to use tablets, electronic logging devices (ELDs), and transportation software applications.
• Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating instructions, and transportation documentation.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.
• Ability to work in varying weather and environmental conditions.
• Dependable, customer-focused, and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
