Job Summary:  The Crisis Care Specialist position functions as a leader in providing de-escalation and support strategies to prevent the use of seclusion and restraint.  The Crisis Care Specialist position also provides effective emergency response in the event of imminent danger in order to maintain safety and security.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provides a No-Force-First recovery environment.
  • Assists with admissions, discharges and transfers of individuals.
  • Conducts ongoing observation of individuals for the purpose of reporting any significant changes.
  • Assists in developing natural supports and community living by collaborating with each guest to strengthen valued roles (friend, spouse, employee, student, etc.) so a greater sense of identity is established.
  • Responds quickly to critical situations that may require Restrictive Interventions.
  • Performs room safety checks, insuring that individuals are safe from potentially dangerous objects and that the rooms are clean.
  • Completes clinical documentation as required.
  • Understands and adheres to CPI standards. 
  • Performs other related duties as assigned
Qualifications

Job Requirements:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  The requirements listed must be representative of the knowledge, skills, minimum education, training, licensure, experience, and/or ability required.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential duties.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of PC-based software applications. 
  • Knowledge of DBHDD provider service guidelines and changes as needed.
  • Ability to work various shifts.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Ability to remain focused in every situation and adapt to changing environments.
  • Knowledge of law enforcement and security principles and procedures.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of behavioral health experience, crisis environment preferred.
  • Valid driver’s license.

Work Schedule - Full-time; Nightshift (7p-7a); (3) 12-hour shifts per week, (plus shift differential 11p-7a)


Driving Requirements:

  • If driving is required for this position, must meet all requirements outlined in driving policy.
  • If not qualified to drive per driving policy, a Non-Driver Attestation form must be signed.

A Direct Service Competency Checklist must be completed as part of the new hire onboarding process.

Work Environment: May work in an office environment or behavioral health facility.  May have contact with individuals who are agitated and/or confused. 


Physical Demands:

Employee is frequently required to walk, sit, stand or kneel and occasionally required to climb or balance and stoop.  Employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  Employee frequently uses fine hand/eye coordination, hearing and visual acuity. May include work close to the eyes and substantial motions of the wrist, hands, and/or fingers.  Employee must be able to physically intervene as needed to assist staff with behavioral issues.  Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.


Skills Required

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of two (2) years of behavioral health experience
  • Experience in a crisis environment
  • Demonstrated knowledge of PC-based software applications
  • Knowledge of CPI standards and ability to adhere to them
  • Knowledge of DBHDD provider service guidelines
  • Knowledge of law enforcement and security principles and procedures
  • Effective communication skills
