Job Description:

This recruitment will be used to fill multiple part-time (a maximum of 24 hours per week) Undergraduate Learning Assistant (ULA) positions for the School of Chemical, Biological, and Environmental Engineering (CBEE) at Oregon State University (OSU).

This position performs a wide variety of work that supports the quality of education in CBEE. This work includes mentoring, checking off work, assisting with holding office hours, assisting with labs, and attending TA meetings. These duties will vary depending on the specific course support needs, and vary from 3-20 hours per week, depending on the workload and assignment.

90% Course Support: Duties include helping with 30-person studio sections, tutoring, leading study sessions, attending weekly meetings, holding office hours, copying materials for courses, and other tasks as needed by the supervising instructor. This position may also assist with grading via a grading rubric. Breakdown will vary by course.

10% Training: Attend and complete a pedagogy training course.

  • Must be academically enrolled in a high school, community college, or university and pursuing a program or course of study
  • Must meet Academic Standing Requirements; students on academic suspension are not eligible for employment
  • Must meet the applicable minimal enrollment standard
    • High School student: Regularly enrolled in a high school or participating in a home-schooling program
    • Undergraduate and post-baccalaureate student: 6 credit hours per term
    • Undergraduate international student: 12 credit hours per term*
    • Graduate student officially admitted to Graduate School: 5 credit hours per term
    • Graduate international student officially admitted to Graduate School: 9 credit hours per term*

*International students may be allowed to carry fewer hours than specified above and still be considered “full-time” by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). A reduced course load is approved by the Office of International Services (OIS), and must be provided to the Student Employment Center.
Required Qualifications:
  • Engineering undergraduate major
  • Sophomore or above
  • Successful completion of the course they are supporting with a B or higher.
  • Overall GPA greater than 2.9/4.0
  • Knowledge of Canvas
  • Strong interpersonal skills and interacting with people from diverse backgrounds
  • Attention to detail and organization
  • Demonstrable ability to work independently and in a team environment

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering or Bioengineering major
  • Junior or above
  • Successful completion of the course they are supporting with a B+ or higher
  • Overall GPA greater than 3.0/Pre-core GPA greater than 3.2
  • Comfortable leading sections of a class with 25-30 students each
  • Team player

Students must complete FERPA training prior to beginning work.

Working Conditions/Schedule:Work may be performed in classrooms, labs, or copy/supply rooms.
Must be able to work between 5 – 20 hours per week.Salary Range:Anticipated Start Date:2026-07-13Anticipated End Date:2027-06-30
