Your Work Matters
As a Category Specialist, you’ll be the engine behind category execution—turning strategy into action alongside a Senior Buyer. Your work directly impacts what our customers see on the floor, how our stores perform, and how smoothly products move from vendor to warehouse to shelf. This role matters because great merchandising doesn’t happen in theory, it happens in the details you manage every day.
Your Day Consists Of
Partnering closely with a Senior Buyer to help develop and execute category plans, product strategies, and seasonal priorities
Supporting buying decisions through analysis, inventory management, promotions, and planogram execution
Owning specific buying responsibilities for assigned categories, regions, or initiatives
Managing vendor relationships, purchase orders, SKU setups, and ongoing follow-ups to keep product flowing accurately and on time
Creating and maintaining category training materials, new product communications, and store-ready guidance
Supporting store teams by troubleshooting issues, managing grand opening needs, and ensuring category execution stays clean and consistent
You’ll Be Successful With
2+ years of merchandising, buying, or inventory-related experience in a fast-paced retail or category environment
Strong analytical skills, especially in Excel, with the ability to turn data into clear actions
A detail-oriented mindset—you notice what’s off before it becomes a problem
The ability to juggle multiple priorities while meeting deadlines without losing accuracy
Clear, confident communication skills for working with buyers, vendors, and store partners
A proactive, organized approach and comfort operating in the day-to-day realities of retail
Work Environment / Physical Expectations
• Primarily a sedentary role with extended periods of sitting, though occasional walking, standing, or light physical activity (lifting up to 20 lbs) may be needed.
• Work is typically performed in a quiet to moderate office setting, with occasional exposure to active warehouse environments and moving equipment.
