Position OverviewThe Manager, Category Sales leads a team of center store and/or perishable sales specialists. The Manager, Category Sales also consults, advises, and directs the retail customer base on the best practices to grow market share and increased revenue and profitability. The Manager engages decision makers and Independent Retailers to assist with the sales and merchandising of Meat, Deli, Bakery and Produce Categories as well as work to increase the volume of products and programs that the company offers.
Job DescriptionDescription
- Lead, mentor and develop perishable and/or center-store sales specialists to achieve and exceed targets
- Plan and execute daily, weekly, monthly and quarterly sell programs
- Provide regular category training on new items, merchandising and departmental best practices to retailers and team members
- Perform special activities, demand forecasts, product surveys and promotional bookings
- Optimize category assortment and close key category voids in collaboration with Category Management and Merchandising/ Procurement team(s)
- Assist department managers, owners, and/or supervisors with product selection, training on new products and proper merchandising, retails to establish proper gross profits for departments, writing ads using ad program, and maintaining the product list with acceptable retails
- Drive to routed stores to assist retailers in achieving and maintaining a business relationship with the company, including problem solving, negotiating, and development of programs while securing integrity and trust between our company and the retailer
- Sell special buy programs and the associated merchandising programs to maximize revenue
- Inform both retailers and team of competitive activities both locally and nationally
- Conduct sales of new programs and services; understand and explain the company's programs and services to the retailer's buyers or representatives

Skills
- Specialized Knowledge : Food Safety Certified or Food Safety Certification Eligible
- Special Skills : Working knowledge of all technical and managerial supermarket functions, and some wholesale knowledge including understanding of transportation, schedules, and equipment. Knowledge of product procurement and vendor relations. Knowledge of perishable product and supply chain management.

Years Of Experience
- 7-10 : Bachelor degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience; At least 7 years of retail and wholesale perishables or center-store category experience; 10 years preferred
