Overview & Responsibilities
Purpose: Lead the development of global and/or local strategic sourcing strategies for the assigned category and the associated commodities that fall within that category. Categories will contain a large spend level across a diverse set of commodities. Work with the supply chain team and other functional groups (e.g. sales, engineering, projects, etc.) to identify spend forecasts, assess current suppliers, identify needs for new suppliers. Develop sourcing strategies accordingly and negotiate global and/or local strategic contracts with suppliers in each commodity.
Background and Experience:
Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience required, master's degree in business or finance is preferred.
Minimum of 10 years buying experience
Must have excellent general background in all phases of procurement and strong financial/commercial acumen.
Must have a minimum of 5 years of management experience and be a proven leader.
Nature of the Job:
Strong leadership to work with cross-functional, global and/or local teams to develop robust category and commodity strategies.
Strong business acumen to enable development and negotiation of value-adding strategic sourcing agreements.
Coordinate with regional procurement teams to effectively implement the sourcing strategies and gather feedback.
This position requires leading and participating in global cross-functional teams. Travel requirement could be frequent for global assignments and typically of one week duration, not to exceed 25%
Lead, develop and implement global and/or local cost reduction programs.
Coordinate with global supply chain development team to identify and develop new and existing suppliers to fill gaps in the category and commodity strategies.
Job requires frequent global communication with the procurement team, quality team, sales and applications engineering. Will also require frequent contact with global suppliers, principally at a management level.
Lead, develop and implement global cost reduction programs.
Specific Job Responsibilities:
Develop and then implement global and/or local sourcing strategies.
Lead cost reduction activities.
Develop and coordinate with buyers to implement commodity strategies and cost improvement programs.
Evaluates recommendations from cross-functional personnel in regard to new sources of supply.
Lead negotiations of strategic contracts including the negotiation of price, quality and delivery.
Collaborates with Supply Chain Development to identify sourcing gaps and to assess potential new suppliers.
Travels to supplier facilities to build relationships, conduct negotiations and evaluate performance.
Collaborates with Sales and Applications Engineering to develop competitive offers to customers and ensure the best total cost of ownership, quality and delivery.
