Category Manager E-Commerce - Coins & Banknotes

About the Role
Coins & Banknotes is one of the biggest and fastest-growing categories in Collectables. It’s where history, rarity, artistry, and serious collector passion meet. Ancient Roman coins, medieval gold, rare mint errors, iconic banknotes, investment-grade slabs, limited runs, pieces with stories attached to kingdoms, wars, and moments that shaped the world. This category attracts collectors who don’t just want an object; they want a legacy.

As Category Manager, you treat Coins & Banknotes like the high-potential business it is. You drive strategy, spot commercial opportunities, and use data to strengthen performance week over week. You lead a team of numismatic experts, build strong relationships with sellers who care deeply about authenticity and value, and create a buyer experience that keeps people coming back. If you like blending commercial sharpness with cultural depth, this role sits right in that sweet intersection.

This role is based in the Netherlands with a hybrid setup. We ask you to join us in the Amsterdam office two days per week because that’s where the other category managers, commercial teams, and key stakeholders gather. Collaboration is stronger in person and helps keep the category aligned and moving quickly.

What You’ll Do

  • Build and own the strategic growth plan for the Coins & Banknotes category
  • Use data and dashboards to make decisions on pricing, supply, and category optimisation
  • Shape auction planning around seasonality, collector behaviour, market value shifts, and rarity patterns
  • Spot commercial opportunities early and influence internal teams to act on them
  • Partner with Sales to strengthen the seller pipeline and attract high-value consignors
  • Lead and coach an international team of Experts
  • Develop and maintain strong, trust-based relationships with sellers and serious buyers
  • Work cross-functionally to improve performance and unlock new business potential
  • Keep a close eye on global numismatic trends, grading developments, and investment shifts
  • Own the category P&L and drive commercial outcomes with clear, data-led actions

What You’ll Bring

  • A commercial brain; you recognise business potential and move quickly to capture it
  • A data-driven mindset that turns dashboards into decisions
  • Strong influencing skills; you can align teams and push initiatives forward
  • Natural leadership and the ability to create clarity and pace for your expert team
  • Entrepreneurial energy and a hands-on approach
  • Experience working in a fast-paced, target-driven environment
  • Strong communication skills across teams and stakeholder groups
  • Comfort with Google Suite or similar tools
  • Interest in coins, banknotes, history, or collecting is a plus (expertise can grow on the job)

Where You’ll Be
A hybrid role based in the Netherlands. You’ll work from the Amsterdam office two days per week to collaborate with fellow category managers, commercial teams, and partners who help shape category direction.

What We Offer
A category with depth, global reach, and major commercial potential. You’ll get real ownership, space to test ideas, and the opportunity to shape one of Catawiki’s largest Collectables segments. Expect ambitious international colleagues, solid development opportunities, a relaxed office culture, and plenty of activities that keep the company connected and energized.
