Job Title FARMER (full-time hourly)
Reports To HEAD FARMER
Description
The Farmer position is a full-time, hourly position requiring a flexible schedule including occasional evening and weekend work. As with all positions at Carrollwood Farms, the Farmer may be called upon to work in areas outside of the immediate area of responsibility.
Responsibilities
The Farmer’s duties include participating, under the direction of supervision including the Head Farmer’s, in all livestock and agronomic activities at the farm. This includes:
- row crop production (corn, soybeans, small grains, alternative crops) and management
- cover crop management
- beef herd management
- donkey care
- hunting (deer, turkey, and when appropriate released birds), including cleaning birds
- establishing and maintaining wildlife habitat
- maintaining farm landscapes including field edges, roads, and waterways
- farm recordkeeping
Qualifications
The Farmer should have a
- Minimum of 10 years’ experience in production agriculture
- Knowledge of row crop agronomy
- Knowledge of large animal husbandry.
- Have experience in how to safely operate and maintain farm equipment including: tractors, spreaders, cultivators, discs, mowers, balers, harvest equipment, roller mixers, and more.
- Knowledge about how to store and move grain in grain bins is required, as well as how to store and handle hay
The Farmer must also be able to haul a cattle trailer (including to slaughterhouse) and use cattle handling equipment.
Individuals interested in this position must be highly motivated and have a “no job is too small mindset.” This individual must have excellent time and project management skills.
Notes
If the Farmer must work on an official holiday, arrangements will be made to provide credit for time worked.
