Job Summary: We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Air Cargo Supervisor to manage and oversee the daily operations of the air cargo department. The ideal candidate will be responsible for supervising staff, ensuring the safe and efficient handling of cargo, maintaining compliance with regulations, delivering exceptional customer service and assist in developing training material. This role requires strong leadership, problem-solving skills, identifying operational weaknesses and a deep understanding of air cargo operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise and manage a team of air cargo staff, ensuring proper training, performance monitoring, and adherence to safety protocols.
- Oversee the loading, unloading, and storage of cargo to ensure efficient operations and minimize damage.
- Monitor inventory levels and coordinate the tracking and documentation of all cargo shipments.
- Ensure compliance with all internal and airline specific procedures.
- Assist in developing training materials for all aspects of the cargo operation, including warehouse handling, documentation handling, dangerous goods, specials, screening and
- Ensure timely availability and receipt of cargo.
- Address and resolve any operational issues or delays in a timely and professional manner.
- Maintain accurate records of cargo shipments, operational reports, and any incidents.
- Implement and monitor quality control measures to maintain a high standard of service.
- Ensure the department meets performance targets and KPIs, including on-time performance and customer satisfaction.
- Provide leadership and guidance to ensure smooth coordination between the handling and documentation teams
- Oversee and sure timely and proper maintenance of building and office infrastructure as well as GSE (e.g. Forklifts, Tugs, Main deck Loaders etc...)
Qualifications:
- Highschool Diploma or GED equivalent,
- Proven experience in air cargo operations or logistics, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role.
- Strong understanding of air cargo industry regulations, safety protocols, and customs procedures.
- Excellent leadership and team management skills.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with customers, vendors, and team members.
- Ability to analyze and solve operational problems in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency in cargo management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Detail-oriented with a commitment to maintaining high operational standards.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays if required.
- Must be 18 years or older
- Must have valid driver’s license
- Must pass background check, pre-employment drug screening, and security threat assessment
- Must have authorization to work in the United States of America
- Must pass airline required trainings
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree preferred
- Certification in air cargo handling (e.g., IATA Dangerous Goods Regulations, Cargo Handling, Forklift License, or similar).
- Knowledge of customs procedures (e.g. ACE, ICS2).
Working Conditions:
- Work environment may include exposure to noisy and physically demanding conditions including potential extreme weather conditions.
- Position is on-site at DTW Metro Airport (80%) and at Avflight Corporate offices in Ann Arbor (20%). Occasional travel up to 50% of the time may be required.
