The Marshall Career Services team, comprised of more than 30 professional staff, and more than 30 undergraduate and graduate student staff, lead the charge to ensure all of Marshall’s approximately 8,200 undergraduate, specialty MS, and MBA students have the support and connections to achieve their professional goals. The undergraduate team in Marshall Career Services is looking to recruit an experienced career services professional to join their team as an associate director. The successful candidate will work directly with undergraduate students, spending the largest portion of their time in one-on-one and group career advising appointments and leading career workshops. This position reports to the senior associate director on the undergraduate team.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Advise students regarding career exploration strategies, internship search methods, resume and cover letter writing, interview preparation, and other career related matters; develop action plans. Determine career advising needs of individuals as well as groups of students.
  • Plan and conduct student career workshops and seminars covering topics such as career exploration, resume building, recruitment preparation and interview techniques, job search, and more.
  • Assist in scheduling career education workshops, track and monitor attendance and workshop evaluations. Develop curriculum and workshop content for assigned topics as needed. These efforts are to encourage and facilitate full-time and internship recruitment efforts.
  • Assist in scheduling department’s career advising and walk-in sessions, track and monitor advising sessions utilization and work to minimize wait time for students.
  • Plan, execute, and support other members on career development programming and initiatives, such as large-scale recruiting events, internship programs, employer panels, local and domestic US industry treks, and alumni mixers.
  • Serve as a champion for target group of students (such as international, transfer, or first-generation college) and develop appropriate programming to support their career development and success.
  • Gather data on level of student engagement with career services programs and events. Manage a variety of student/employer event assessments to determine effectiveness.
  • Daily usage of career management software system, Handshake, an online tool for job and internship searching, career assistance and resources, recruiting events, and announcements.
  • Keep abreast of recruitment trends, and development in varied industries and maintain an active network of professional contacts.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for one to two on-line career resources and work to promote and encourage adaptation by students.
  • Promote an environment that fosters inclusive relationships and create unbiased opportunities for contributions through ideas, words, and actions that uphold principles of the USC Code of Ethics.
  • Lead 1-2 large-scale department project such as the management and execution of Marshall’s premiere mentor program, Career Advantage Program (CAP). This will involve planning events, managing student communications, and preparing monthly newsletters;  Success Suits You program (provides professional attire to students); First Year Career Launch (career based program for first year students delivered each semester); Marshall Internship Program (provides funding for unpaid or low paid summer internships) .

Other duties for this position:

  • Engage with Marshall student organizations regarding career programming and employer contacts that would benefit members.  
  • Attend professional meetings to stay current on career and employment trends and ensure the University maintains a presence in the recruitment community.
  • Collaborate with Academic Advising staff members in the Student Services Office with programming and events. 
  • Liaise with the USC Career Center and other campus career centers, such as the Marshall MBA Career Resource Center, Annenberg School for Communication and Viterbi School of Engineering.
  • Other duties as assigned

Preferred Qualifications:

  • MBA or master’s degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs, Counseling, Career Counseling, or related discipline.
  • Five or more years of full-time relevant experience
  • Experience working in a corporate environment.

Anticipated Hiring Range:

The salary range for this position is $76,442.59 - $87,619.33 -$100,145.99. When extending an offer of employment, the University of Southern California considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, federal, state, and local laws, contractual stipulations, grant funding, as well as external market and organizational considerations.

Minimum Education: Bachelor's degree
Minimum Experience: 3 years
Minimum Field of Expertise: Experience in career services, human resources, recruiting, or related industries, with some experience in a coaching or leadership role.
