PURPOSE OF POSITION:

The Career Navigator will review personal career goals, personal strengths, standardized evidence based educational and/or career assessments to design a plan for classes, trainings, or steps toward career advancement for Goodwill employees enrolled in the Opportunity Accelerator program.  

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

Reports directly to the Program Manager II Placement Benefits Services and Career Pathways Supervisor.

SUPERVISION EXERCISED:

Provides direction to participating Opportunity Accelerator staff participants.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Assumes a caseload of staff interested in the career pathways career counseling project.  Enrolls staff into the career counseling project and composes effective individual program plans for each phase of career pathway planning.  Assists staff in accessing community resources to aid them in the implementation of their career goals.  Assist staff with career research and development including researching trade schools, certificate programs, colleges and/or various training needed.  Assist staff with the completion of educational, career, and functional assessments.  Assists participating staff in gathering personal data for job applications and resumes.  Assist staff with development of a LinkedIn account.  Assist in completing online applications.  Provides career and job readiness skills and training.  Provides mock interview sessions.  Assists staff with job leads discovery, completing and submitting job applications, and employer follow-up advocacy to secure interviews for job placement.  Analyzes employment trends; performs ongoing prospecting of community job market to identify employment opportunities for participating employees.  Maintains information pertaining to jobs/careers that are available and the prerequisites for those jobs.  Facilitates meetings with staff and other professionals to develop career plans which reflect the staffs interests, preferences, and choices.  Coordinates services with Goodwill management for staff participation.  Provides Opportunity Accelerator awareness training to Goodwill staff and leadership.  Maintains information pertaining to careers that are available and the prerequisites for those careers.  Helps staff set up jobs interviews and accompanies staff to these interviews as appropriate.  Coordinates career development and job placement services with One Stop Centers, trade schools, colleges and networks with other community employment providers.  Attends local organizations’ meetings related to career development and job development.  Makes public speaking presentations and community outreach.  Maintains clear, standardized records of staff served, types of service, and results of services.  Follows up with participating staff regularly.  Provides career counseling as well as interventions for staff to enhance job performance and advancement.  Maintains excellent communication to support positive outcomes and to help resolve any staff performance problems or other issues.  Models appropriate behavior and professionalism.  Ensure the highest level of quality program services are being delivered.  Regularly meets with Program Manager to discuss staffs progress and any concerns (case management reviews).  Coordinates and implements appropriate program participant crisis intervention.  Completes all necessary paperwork including, but not limited to, monthly statistics, progress reports, and updating program plans.  Maintains program statistics and ensures all program objectives are met to remain in compliance with all standards.  Becomes familiar with the needs and limitations of assigned staff to ensure appropriate accommodations and guidance.  Notifies Program Manager immediately of any problems with staff to resolve issues in a timely manner.  Oversees career development support to improve job skills, wages, and ultimate career goals.  Works with leads, supervisors, and managers in DGR to allow participating employees to miss time from work as a part of initial project orientation, quarterly meetings, and potential trainings.  Emphasizes a strong work ethic and appropriate performance in workforce development.  Attends staff meetings as scheduled.  Drives on company business as required.  Works overtime as required.  Performs other job related duties as required.  Safeguards company property, including donated goods. Reports any incidents of theft or unauthorized possession of company property.  Acts safely at all times, following all safety rules and regulations.  Follows all company policies and procedures.  Promotes and demonstrates cooperation and teamwork. Assists and shares knowledge and information with other employees as needed.  Uses good interpersonal skills such as courtesy, sensitivity, politeness, and thoughtfulness.  Maintains confidentiality and privacy of all participation staff.

MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Bachelor’s degree in human services or related field preferred, or equivalent work experience.  Two years relevant experience working in workforce development.  Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.  Effective grammar, English, and writing skills.  PC proficiency in MS Office.  Reliable transportation, a valid California driver’s license, liability insurance, and a DMV record acceptable to Goodwill’s insurance company.
