General Schedule

The general schedule for this position is 40 hours a week, Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.

Position Overview and Job Duties:

• Provide individualized assistance to UCO students and alumni in obtaining education and career goals, which may include topics such as defining career and internship goals, major selection, job search strategies, resume preparation, interviewing, graduate/professional school applications, and career assessments.
• Coordinate at least one special project focused on student outreach and training to special student populations.
• Facilitate training and skill development workshops and presentations to classes and student organizations.
•  Maintain up-to-date knowledge and information about career fields and industries.
• Assist in coordinating special events, programs, fairs, etc.
•  Provide outreach to faculty, staff and any appropriate student groups and/or organizations to increase visibility and knowledge of office programs.
• Participate in assessment of services and programs.
• Promote the university and office through participation in professional organizations.
• Participate as a team member in other relevant activities related to the goals and objectives of the unit.

Scope & Impact: This position is an entry level professional position, with actions that may have a measurable impact on operations within a work group.

Communication & Interaction: Routinely answers questions and provides information and data requested by individuals within or outside of work area. Questions that require interpretation or are not easily resolved are referred to Supervisor.

Effective Knowledge: Demonstrates ability to execute tasks according to standard operating procedures and/or direction. Demonstrates ability to
learn new subject matter, coupled with attention to detail and responsiveness to feedback.

Problem Solving & Judgement: Performs a variety of duties following established policies and procedures. Resolves problems by selecting from approved alternatives based on past practices, established procedures, or direction. Able to set priorities and objectives; may assist in problem resolution with supervisor support.

Budget Authority: May provide input into budget development by assisting with identification of operational needs and requirements.

Policy & Procedure Authority: Primarily responsible for executing routine procedures with direction from senior staff.

Reporting Relationships: Generally, reports to manager or higher but may receive basic operational direction and guidance from senior level staff members.

Supervisory & Team Leadership Responsibilities: None.

Qualifications/Experience Required:

Requires a bachelor’s degree, or equivalent experience, in a field that provides knowledge of and exposure to fundamental theories, principles, and concepts that can be applied to student development. Effective oral and written communication skills, including the ability to speak to both small and large groups. Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, and implement programs. Experience building relationships with diverse stakeholders.

Qualifications/Experience Preferred:

Master's degree in counseling or student development. At least one year of experience in career services, advising, or counseling. Understanding of career development theory. Demonstrated ability to use assessment instruments such as Focus2 or CliftonStrengths.
