What you will be doing

This is an exciting opportunity for a Combustion Product Design Capability Lead to step into a key leadership role within the Turbines and Combustion Product Design team, with influence across both Bristol and Derby. You’ll play a central part in developing both the technical capability and the people within the team, supporting the definition and delivery of Combustion Product System designs across Civil Aerospace.

This role offers real scope for career development, with the chance to shape ways of working, mentor early-career engineers, and contribute directly to the maturity of a strategically important capability. It’s ideal for someone who enjoys developing others while driving technical excellence.

Responsibilities

In this role, you’ll:

• Lead and develop a geographically distributed team across Bristol and Derby, with a focus on both technical delivery and people growth.

• Drive the maturity of combustion design capability, including methods, tools, and processes.

• Support the successful delivery of combustion component designs into products, particularly where team members are still building experience.

• Act as a technical leader and mentor, sharing best practice and raising the overall standard of engineering delivery.

• Collaborate with senior stakeholders to align team objectives with business priorities and strategic capability needs.

Who we’re looking for

• Proven engineering leadership experience, including managing people and developing technical capability.

• Strong understanding of the design lifecycle, ideally with experience delivering components into product.

• Background in mechanical or aerospace engineering, with experience in combustion design highly desirable.

• Ability to mentor and support less experienced engineers through complex technical challenges.

• Professionally qualified engineer (minimum BEng or equivalent) and Chartered Engineer (CEng) status, or working towards it.

To work this position an individual must be able to hold a Security Check clearance.
