Job Summary: 

Lead and is responsible for overseeing the Corrective and Preventive Action (CAPA) process and Complaints. This role ensures full compliance with industry regulations by identifying quality trends, investigates customer issues, drive root cause investigations, implement actions to prevent issue recurrence, follow up with cross functional teams and customers as necessary, report all external product or service complaints, manage, organize/review databases and escalate issues to appropriate parties. 

Qualifications

Key Responsibilities:

  • Govern CAPA procedures triggered by Critical Control Point (CCP) deviations, operational failures, or preventive control bypasses 
  • Lead cross-functional teams (Sanitation, Production, Maintenance) to investigate biological, chemical, or physical hazards using 5 Whys and Fishbone diagrams
  • Own the CAPA workflow for out-of-specification results and process deviations 
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for regulatory inspectors (FDA/USDA) and third-party auditors (SQF/BRC) looking at CAPA logs and effectiveness checks specifically for areas of expertise.
  • Maintain centralized document management systems CAPAs and Customer Complaints.
  • Rapidly triage and investigate high-risk complaints regarding illness, injury, or physical contamination (e.g., metal, glass, plastic)
  • Coordinate with Warehouse and QA teams to execute instant lot-tracing and mass-balance checks upon receiving high-priority complaints
  • Support mock-recall events as needed 
  • Draft precise, technically compliant documentation regarding product quality or low-risk attributes for retail partners (e.g., Costco, Walmart) and regulators
  • Monitor digital complaint logs to detect early signs of systemic issues, such as short shelf-life trends, packaging failures, or micro-spikes
  • Escalate raw material or packaging-related complaints back to the appropriate team to issue external supplier CAPAs
  • Additional support to visit different manufacturing sites, complete internal review and assess gaps in food safety, food quality, GMP, and other pending audit pre-needs
  • Support additional initiates as needed to ensure food safety and food quality
  • The back-up for this role is the Quality Manager.

Skills Required

  • Experience governing CAPA procedures for CCP deviations, operational failures, preventive-control bypasses, out-of-specification results, and process deviations
  • Experience leading cross-functional investigations involving sanitation, production, and maintenance teams
  • Knowledge of biological, chemical, and physical hazard investigations using 5 Whys and Fishbone diagrams
  • Experience supporting FDA and USDA regulatory inspections and SQF or BRC third-party audits
  • Experience maintaining CAPA and customer complaint databases or document management systems
  • Ability to triage and investigate high-risk complaints involving illness, injury, or physical contamination
  • Experience with lot tracing, mass-balance checks, and mock-recall support
  • Ability to draft technically compliant quality documentation for retail partners and regulators
  • Ability to monitor complaint data for systemic quality trends and escalate supplier-related issues
  • Ability to conduct internal reviews and assess food safety, food quality, GMP, and audit-readiness gaps
