Responsibilities:
- Trade Operations Management
- Handle daily operations with the Canadian Customs Broker and other related parties to ensure timely clearance of shipments for both retailers and ecommerce customers, and compliance with Brooks’ policies and Canada import laws and regulations for both retail and ecommerce customer shipments. This also involves tracking the customs clearance status and communicating any delays to the Canada Customer Operations and Transportation teams
- Conduct daily Canada CADentry audits and provide approval to brokers to submit to Canada Customs
- Investigate and resolve Canada shipment discrepancies by collaborating with the Transportation team, DC shipping team, freight carrier and Canada customs brokers, and filing an entry amendment as needed
- Manage the relationship with Canada Customs brokers, which includes quarterly business reviews, reporting monthly broker KPIs, maintaining the SOP and account databases
- Manage CARM and Single Window programs with CBS
- Validate and approve duty invoices for payment
- Own and manage the Canada returns process which involves creating the Customs clearance documents for the US Customs broker, collaborating with Freight Forwarder, US Customs Broker, and US warehouse to prevent shipment delays, and reconcile shipment data once delivered to the US. Manage recordkeeping for returns to support drawback program
- Manage Canada drawback filings and required recordkeeping to ensure regulatory compliance and timely receipt of refunds
- Serve as primary point of contact for courier shipment issues and manage customs clearance delays
- Provide customs clearance support for Canada marketing and/or race event shipments as needed
- Demonstrate strong working knowledge of the Canada free trade agreement requirements. Analyze shipment and product costing/specifications to determine reduced duty eligibility for Brooks Sports’ Canada imports. Generate certificate of origins and work closely with Canadian Customs Brokers to declare benefits accurately
- Work with Product teams to identify new opportunities for free trade savings
- Execute port shipment release process with Customs brokers to declare Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) trade benefits on eligible product
- Support global customs classification process by providing interpretation for Canada region and classifying product with the correct Canada harmonized tariff schedule (HTS) codes
- Collaborate with external consultant and Brooks Finance team to submit annual required transfer price adjustment filing with CBSA
- Conduct liability analysis and renew Brooks’ Canada Import Customs bonds annually
- Support preparation, audit and follow up of CBSA Canada audits
- Manage, audit, and maintain recordkeeping of import and export documents in accordance with Canada customs regulations and Brooks’ requirements for Canadian distribution
- Following Brooks global trade compliance guidelines and Canada customs regulations, develop standardized policies and procedures that drive operational excellence for Canada trade operations
- On a monthly basis, analyze customs data and report KPIs and cost savings related to Canada imports and exports as part of Trade Compliance team internal reporting
- Stay up to date with Canada customs and other government agencies’ regulations (through attending local seminars and reviewing trade publications) and make recommendations to Brooks processes to ensure compliance
- Participate in relevant customs compliance webinars, seminars, and networking opportunities
- Develop internal and external compliance training for stakeholders as needed
- Serve as a back up to North America trade compliance team roles
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in international trade, business administration, or related field, or equivalent education/work experience in import and/or export industry
- 3+ years of work experience in logistics and/or trade compliance industry
- Knowledge of Canada import regulations and free trade agreements
- Experience working with footwear and apparel product classifications, especially Chapter 61, 62, 64 and 65 of the Harmonized Tariff Schedule.
- Completion & Active Participation in Customs relevant training
- Customs Broker’s License or Certified Customs Specialist is a plus
- A commitment to detail, accuracy, and follow-through
- Ability to work independently and make effective decisions
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects
- Ability to function in a team environment and make positive contribution
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Able to adapt to process change and initiate process improvements.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and experience with ERP or trade compliance tools. Ability to anticipate how a decision can affect our stakeholders and our customs compliance.
- Demonstration of innovation and initiative – always looking at improve processes while also displaying a willingness to dive into the details and help wherever necessary, required.
- Must be able to travel within U.S. and/or Canada to attend conferences as well as team and company events at Brooks’ headquarters’ office (approximately 5% travel)
