We are currently seeking an experienced Calibration / Metrology Technician for our Dexter, Michigan location. Working within the GO&SC organization, this role will support the calibration of test, inspection, and measurement equipment at the site and will have a global-reaching impact with a strong focus on quality and compliance. In this role, you will help empower teams focused on research, innovation, development, and manufacturing.

As a Calibration / Metrology Technician III, you will perform job functions under limited supervision in laboratory, production, clean room, and test environments. Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned:

  • Perform calibrations and measurements traceable to NIST and the International System of Units (SI) using appropriately maintained reference standards. Test, inspection, and measurement equipment ranges from general-purpose physical and dimensional equipment to more complex systems. Disciplines include mass, temperature, humidity, vacuum, length, optics, conductivity, pressure, dimensional metrology, force, torque, flow, and more.
  • Create and modify calibration procedures by determining metrology requirements from manufacturer manuals, laboratory methods, system requirements, or other approved documentation.
  • Interact with equipment-owning engineers and technicians to schedule calibration activities, provide guidance related to the selection of test and measurement equipment, and lead others in following documented Metrology department procedures.
  • Maintain a strong attention to detail while properly documenting calibration results in the calibration tracking database using validated templates or test point grids. As appropriate, issue Out of Tolerance (OOT) or Nonconformance (NC) reports and support investigation efforts.
  • Work with data acquisition and validation equipment (e.g., process control equipment/controllers, chart recorders, DC analog/signal conditioners, and transducers).
  • Troubleshoot, inspect, and adjust or repair test and measurement equipment in support of new and existing projects.
  • Provide in-lab and on-site calibration support for equipment that is too sensitive to move or too large to relocate.
  • Work overtime when necessary to support high-priority requests or meet project goals.
  • Share knowledge and serve as a mentor for lower-level technicians and other departmental personnel.

Required Knowledge and Experience: Requires high school diploma or equivalent and minimum of 4 years of relevant experience.

Nice to Have:

  • 2+ years of electronic or physical calibration-related technical school training (approximately 60 semester credits), preferably including metrology and calibration, or equivalent military education such as PMEL or similar training.
  • ASQ Certified Calibration Technician (CCT).
  • Strong background in mathematics, statistics, and physics.
  • Solid technical aptitude with experience in equipment setup and troubleshooting.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint), Windows operating systems, Minitab (or other statistical analysis software), and AssetPanda (or other calibration tracking database software).
  • Working knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) techniques, including blueprint interpretation.
  • Experience developing and validating Microsoft Excel spreadsheet templates.
  • Experience working in medical device or other regulated industries.
  • Experience applying DMAIC or similar structured problem-solving methodologies.
  • Strong analytical, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to prioritize and execute daily tasks and long-term objectives through effective self-management of work requests.
  • Knowledge of calibration and measurement principles, including measurement uncertainty, traceability, measurement standards, test uncertainty/accuracy ratios (TUR), measurement system analysis (MSA), SI units, calibration intervals, and out-of-tolerance reporting.
  • Familiarity with applicable regulations and standards, including FDA 21 CFR Part 820 (cGMP), ISO 13485, ISO 10012, and ISO 17025.
  • Familiarity with organizations related to metrology, measurements, or standards, such as NIST, BIPM, NCSL, ASTM, and ASME.
  • Willingness and ability to support maintenance efforts as needed, including coordination with maintenance teams to ensure calibration readiness and equipment availability.
  • Organized, efficient, and process-oriented with strong interpersonal and communication skills; self-motivated, collaborative team player with a strong work ethic; able to work well under pressure in a dynamic environment; tactful and able to exercise independent judgment and discretion with a professional demeanor.

For Baccalaureate degrees earned outside of the United States, a degree that satisfies the requirements of 8 C.F.R. § 214.2(h)(4)(iii)(A) is required.

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$59,600.00 - $89,400.00


This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Operations Incentive Plan (OIP).

The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).

The following benefits and additional compensation are available to those regular employees who work 20+ hours per week: Health, Dental and vision insurance, Health Savings Account, Healthcare Flexible Spending Account, Life insurance, Long-term disability leave, Dependent daycare spending account, Tuition assistance/reimbursement, and Simple Steps (global well-being program).
