Overview and Purpose

The C4 Integration Engineer is responsible for the design, integration, testing, verification of Command, Control, Communication, and Computers (C4) systems across maritime platforms. This role supports system architecture development, interfaces, and end-to-end integration to ensure reliable, secure, and mission-ready C4 capabilities.

The engineer will work closely with cross-functional teams including software developers, network, electrical, cybersecurity, and operational stakeholders to ensure all systems and subsystems function cohesively to meet program requirements.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
This position is responsible for the following: Other duties may be assigned.
  1. Develop and execute integration plans of C4 systems, including communications networks, sensors, mission systems, and computing environments.
  2. Develop system architecture diagrams, interface control documents (ICDs), and integration plans.
  3. Conduct hardware and software integration at the platform and subsystem level.
  4. Support configuration management, version control, and technical baselines.
  5. Conduct system-level testing, validation, and verification of integrated C4 components.
  6. Troubleshoot and resolve integration or interoperability issues across hardware and software domains.
  7. Support Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), Harbor Acceptance Testing (HAT), and Sea Acceptance Testing (SAT).
  8. Prepare technical documentation including system installation drawings, test procedures, and engineering change proposals (ECPs).
  9. Ensure compliance with applicable military standards (e.g., MIL-STD-1399, MIL-STD-1553, TEMPEST, and cybersecurity requirements).
  10. Generate engineering reports, risk assessments, and configuration management records.
  11. Collaborate with shipyard production, electrical, and electronic divisions to synchronize integration timelines.
  12. Interface with government customers, contracting officers, and prime contractors to ensure deliverable compliance.
  13. Provide technical input for integration schedules, material forecasts, and cost estimates.
  14. Ensure integrated systems adhere to cybersecurity requirements and accreditation processes.
  15. Support vulnerability assessments, patch management, and secure configuration activities.

Required Education & Experience:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, System Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field.
  2. Ten (10+) years with C4ISR systems, tactical communications, and defense network architecture.
  3. Strong Understanding of networks, communications systems, and system interfaces.
  4. Familiarity with DoD acquisition processes and government contracting environments.
  5. 5-10 years of relevant experience in C4 or combat system integration (naval, maritime, or defense environments).
  6. Prior experience working in shipyard or dry-dock environments is beneficial.

Working Conditions:

  1. Work performed in shipyards, industrial, and office environments.
  2. Frequent exposure to shipboard spaces such as machinery rooms, confined areas, and decks under construction.
  3. May require traveling to shipyards, climbing contractor felicities, or naval bases.

Special Skills:

  1. Strong problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills.
  2. Understanding of cybersecurity requirements (RMF, DIACAP, or similar).
  3. Experience with modeling tools
  4. Systems thinking and technical leadership.
  5. Cross-discipline collaboration
  6. Analytical troubleshooting
  7. Attention to detail and documentation accuracy.
  8. Ability to work in fast-paced, evolving program environments.
