Job Description

Summary

Performs a wide variety of production planning activities and supports procurement, as required. Responsible for managing assigned product lines, commodities and supplier bases.

At this level, tasks and assignments tend to be general but may involve complex and/or non-routine assignments and duties are performed under limited supervision.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Coordinates all activities related to procurement of a commodity, product line or supplier, beginning with intent to purchase through delivery.
  • Releases and manages work orders and rework work-orders
  • Responsible for parts procurement, product on-time-delivery, materials on-time-delivery, linear shipment scheduling and processing non-conforming material
  • Responsible for sales order ship date maintenance and establishing sales order shipment dates
  • Plans, schedules and monitors the movement of materials through the production cycle to determine required materials
  • Purchases materials, using engineering and production schedules to maintain inventory at planned levels
  • Gathers quotations, examines bids and makes awards
  • Develops specifications for new contract orders
  • Obtains materials, components and equipment
  • Evaluates vendor reliability, develops new supply sources where vendors and suppliers are inadequate
  • Monitors cost, schedule and scope of assigned subcontracts to assure best quality at best value, and all other duties as assigned
  • Maintains timely control of orders, amendments, shipping notices, and other documents to assure accurate retention of records.
  • Revise production schedules when required due to design changes, labor or material shortages, backlogs, collaborating with management, sales, production or engineering.

Supervisory Responsibilities

This job has no supervisory responsibilities but may provide technical leadership to lower level buyer/planners including carrying out lead responsibilities in accordance with applicable regulations and laws and the organization’s policies and procedures. This includes, but is not limited to training employees, planning, assigning, directing work and resolving technically related work problems.

Education and/or Experience

Bachelor's degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university in a related field and 5-10 years of directly related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. 

Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively with other employees of organization.

Mathematical Skills: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, and percentages. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Reasoning Ability:  Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Computer Skills:  To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of MS Outlook; MS Excel and MS Word software.

Other Essential Duties

  • Follows all import/export requirements, consulting with facility import/export personnel as required.

Other Skills and Abilities

  • Basic Knowledge of ISO and/or AS9100
  • Working knowledge of Lean Manufacturing/6 Sigma/Kaizen
  • Knowledge of specific software (design, analysis, ERP…)

  • U.S. Person for access to ITAR-Controlled Technical Data.
