The Role

Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL) is seeking professional, innovative, and detail-oriented individuals to join our team as a Buyer. This role offers a unique opportunity to build and strengthen supplier partnerships, ensuring the highest quality, timely delivery, and competitive costs. As a Buyer a typical day might include the following:  

  • Adhering to purchasing policies and practices to ensure highest quality, appropriate inventory levels, timely delivery, and competitive cost from suppliers.

  • Executing strategic sourcing plans to support company objectives.

  • Identifying and mitigating risks to the SEL supply chain; including market trends, capacity constraints, commodity risks, and business conditions for manufacturers and suppliers.

  • Creating and improving supplier partnerships by identifying areas for improvement, escalating issues to management and executing corrective action plans in accordance with World Class Manufacturing principles.

  • Demonstrating business professionalism, purchasing fundamentals, time management, data analytics, supply chain management, supplier development, cost reduction strategy development and negotiation techniques.

  • Supporting on open projects by managing the supply chain and providing guidance on the part selection process and strategic supply partners.  

This job might be for you if: 

  • You hold a Bachelor’s degree or higher in business, operations, or supply chain; or a combination of relevant education and experience.

  • You have intermediate skills in Microsoft Excel.

  • You are familiar working with MRP/ERP systems.

  • You have strong writing, documentation, and speaking skills.
