Job Summary/Objective 

 

As a Packaging Operator, you will be responsible for the efficient operation of various packaging equipment including Ava/Sapac, Lactose, and Butter packaging systems, ensuring Company production standards are met for pounds and bags per hour. Perform start-up and shut-down procedures for packaging equipment, powder bins, rare earth magnets, packaging fillers, ink jet coding machines, metal detection equipment, palletizing systems, bulk fillers, and remelting equipment. Maintain adequate packaging supply stock, uphold accurate record-keeping, perform general housekeeping and sanitation duties, and ensure a clean work environment. Adhere to SOPs, HACCP guidelines, and UDA quality, safety, and GMP policies. Report any nonconformities and perform other duties as needed. 

 

Primary Duties & Responsibilities: 

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following: 

 

  • Perform the safe and efficient operation of all packaging equipment bag fillers to maintain company established production standards for pounds per hour of finished product and bags per hour.  

  • Perform start-up and shut-down functions of powder bins, rare earth magnets, packaging fillers, ink jet coding machines, metal detection equipment, palletizing systems, bulk fillers, and remelting equipment.  

  • Operate butter packaging, bulk filler, and remelting equipment to package butter in proper containers.  

  • Hand pack 55lb cases of butter onto pallets and palletize product in proper configuration.  

  • Shrink wrap and prepare products for shipping and storage using case packer equipment.  

  • Perform daily assembly cleaning, swabbing and sanitizing packagers, printers and other areas as needed.  

  • Notify production operators of problems with packaging equipment.  

  • Maintain proper packaging supply stock.  

  • Keep accurate and legible records including weights, start times, down times, pallets produced, etc.  

  • Maintain general cleanliness of warehouse production area and powder packaging areas.  

  • Perform general housekeeping duties for production powder warehouse and packaging areas, including general sanitation, cleaning, sweeping, etc.  

  • Perform miscellaneous production powder warehouse support duties including sorting, stacking, etc.  

  • Provide relief coverage for other packaging operators as needed.  

  • Maintain a clean and sanitary work area at all times.  

  • Adhere to all SOP's and HACCP guidelines.  

  • Adhere to all UDA quality, safety, and GMP policies and procedures, reporting any nonconformity.  

  • Other duties as required.

Qualifications: 
 

Skills & Abilities:  

  • Ability to operate packaging equipment.  

  • Knowledge of good manufacturing practices.  

  • Must be able to work 12-hour shifts.  

  • Requires ability to read, hear, speak, write, comprehend and carry out verbal and written instructions and Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) in English.  

  • Ability to use common math 

  • Ability to multitask. 

 

Experience: Required: 

  • General knowledge of packaging equipment, conveyor systems, and food manufacturing environments is helpful.  

  • Knowledge of packaging and food manufacturing processes. 

Experience: Preferred:  

 

  • Dairy Manufacturing experience  

 

Education/Certifications:  

  • High School Diploma would be preferred 

  • Forklift certification preferred
