This is a full-time position working 40 hours a week, Monday-Friday 8:00am - 5:00pm.



POSITION SUMMARY:

The Business Relationship Manager is responsible for proactively growing and deepening relationships with business members while identifying new opportunities to expand the credit union’s presence in the business community. This role involves outbound prospecting, community engagement, and collaboration with internal partners to deliver tailored financial solutions. The ideal candidate is a relationship builder with a strong sales mindset, excellent communication skills, and a passion for helping businesses succeed.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Business Development & Sales:

  • Meet and exceed business sales goals by establishing and retaining relationships with new and existing business members.
  • Proactively prospect for new business relationships through personal outreach, referrals, phone calls, and community engagement.
  • Manage and grow a portfolio of business relationships by monitoring account utilization, service adoption, and member satisfaction, and identifying opportunities to deepen engagement through value‑added solutions.
  • Identify and facilitate small business lending opportunities up to $150,000 by providing consultative support and coordinating internal resources to meet business member financing needs.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of business financial statements, cash‑flow patterns, and operating structures to effectively match business members with appropriate deposit, payment, and lending solutions.
  • Demonstrate proficiency in CRM system to track relationship activity, manage pipelines, and support proactive business member engagement.

Relationship Management:

  • Deliver a high‑touch, relationship‑based service experience by proactively anticipating business member needs, resolving issues with urgency, and leveraging internal partnerships to deepen relationships and drive long‑term engagement.
  • Establish new business accounts and cross-sell credit union products and services with accuracy and professionalism.
  • Identify potential operational or reputational risks within business relationships and escalate appropriately to internal partners to ensure safe, compliant solutions.
  • Partner with Business Lending and Treasury Services to support joint prospecting, lead generation, and proposal development.
  • Identify and refer opportunities across internal lines of business, to deliver holistic financial solutions and support.
  • Serve as a trusted financial advisor to business members by understanding their operating cycles, cash‑flow needs, growth objectives, and risk considerations, and recommending tailored financial solutions that support long‑term business success and owner objectives.

Community Engagement:

  • Represent the credit union at local events, business networking functions, and internally sponsored activities through active participation and public speaking engagements to promote brand visibility, thought leadership, and relationship development.
  • Deliver presentations, speak on panels, or facilitate educational sessions for business owners and community groups to enhance financial awareness and position the credit union as a trusted business partner.
  • Develop and maintain professional referral networks with community leaders, industry partners, and centers of influence to support sustainable business growth.

Team Collaboration & Training:

  • Cross-train staff on business products and services; may lead formal training sessions on sales techniques.
  • Provide backup support to the Business Banking team as needed.
  • Travel within the branch network to support business development and member service.

Compliance & Operations:

  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of credit union policies and procedures related to business accounts.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements, including the Bank Secrecy Act.
  • Contribute to efficient credit union operations by performing additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Certification:     

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, or a related field preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Ongoing professional development in business banking or financial services encouraged.

 

Required Knowledge:

  • Understanding of credit union or banking business products and financial services.
  • Familiarity with small business financial needs and community-based business development.
  • Knowledge of compliance and regulatory requirements related to business accounts.

 

Experience Required:             

  • 3–5 years of experience in sales and customer service, preferably within a financial institution, with demonstrated success managing ongoing client or member relationships.
  • Experience working with small to mid‑sized businesses, including relationship development, needs discovery, and solution‑based engagement.
  • Proven experience using CRM systems to manage prospects and business member relationships, track sales and referral activity, document interactions, and maintain accurate pipeline or portfolio information.
  • Outside sales, retail banking, or commercial lending and credit evaluation experience is highly desirable.

 

HARD/TECHNICAL Skills/Abilities:

  • Proficiency in Microsoft office suite (word, excel, outlook).
  • Ability to manage and track the sales process from lead generation to close.
  • Strong negotiation and influencing skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • High level of self-motivation and ability to work independently.
  • Physical ability to travel, walk, and drive to member and prospect locations.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Standard office conditions
  • Low to moderate noise
  • Limited lifting up to 10 lbs.
