Are you interested in being part of the team that makes direct impact to the firm's business? You'll play an integral role as a part of the Japan Controls organization, supporting the Japan business to run effectively and efficiently. This role offers the opportunity to develop and enhance our control framework, contributing to our continuous approach to risk assessment and ensuring compliance with regulatory expectations. The role has local accountability to the Global Corporate Bank (GCB) Japan Head and reports directly to APAC Business Operations Director.
As a Business Operations Manager - Vice President in GCB team, you'll be responsible for ensuring the business has a sustainable and disciplined end-to-end control environment, identifying and escalating issues with a sense of urgency, and partnering with the Business and Second Line of Defense to ensure issues are remediated in a timely manner. In this role, you will perform ongoing analysis of the business' risk and control environment to identify significant gaps and weaknesses, and ensures that controls are properly designed.
This demanding role requires a talented team member who can work independently and partner with other departments in a collaborative way.
Job Responsibilities

  • Maintain a proactive risk and control culture that leverages proven evaluation strategies and sound change management protocols
  • Escalate issues to regional and global partners while working closely with risk and compliance functions with respect to identification and resolution of regulatory and control issues
  • Work closely with control functions in other lines of business to ensure that best practices are implemented and continuous lessons learned from local and regional teams
  • Conduct risk and control assessments and ensure that issues and action plans identified are properly addressed and implement procedures to ensure key regulations are complied with by the business
  • Review issues impacting clients to learn about the root cause and any onward action and communication that is required
  • Represent the business in control forums and ensure control framework including resiliency plans are accurate and appropriately communicated
  • Conduct relevant training to bankers/sales teams to ensure there is continuous awareness of regulations


Required qualifications, capabilities and skills

  • Adept in the use of Excel and PowerPoint
  • Ability to undertake root causes and problem solve with solutions
  • Strong project management, organizational skills
  • Effective written and verbal presentation skills
  • Ability to work on your own and run point on projects
  • Bilingual Japanese and English proficiency


Preferred qualifications, capabilities, and skills

  • Knowledge in Banking and Cash Management would be beneficial
  • Experience in Audit and Controls would be preferred
  • Influence management skills
  • Proactive self-starter
  • Minimum 8 years of work experience gained in roles risk and controls, preferably within the Finance industry
