About Axial

Axial’s mission is to unleash the power of private capital markets for entrepreneurs - and we’re doing so by building an online platform that is transforming American small business M&A.

Founded in 2009, Axial is an NYC-based financial technology platform serving more than 10,000 participants in the private-company M&A market, including private equity firms, corporate acquirers, boutique investment banks, and business owners looking to sell their companies.

In 2025, approximately half of the U.S. SMBs - companies generating between $5 million and $150 million in revenue - that explored an M&A exit used Axial, resulting in more than 3 million buyer-seller connections across 12,500+ deals.

We’re a lean, high-conviction team building category-defining products for a market that moves quickly and trusts carefully. That demands speed, judgment, and a high standard of execution.

Role Overview

We are looking for an outstanding Business Operations Associate / Senior Associate to contribute to the day-to-day GTM operations and growth of the company. Reporting to Axial’s Business Operations Lead, you will work closely with the VP of Operations and leadership team across go-to-market operations, GTM enablement, data analysis, workflow automation, and special projects.

The primary focus of this role will be enabling Axial’s go-to-market team. The GTM team is Axial’s sales and account management organization, responsible for winning new business and growing existing relationships across our sell-side, buy-side, and business owner member segments.

You will serve as a key link between Business Operations and GTM, helping align teams, improve day-to-day execution, and move important initiatives forward. Your work will span process improvement, reporting, strategic targeting, campaign support, data analysis, and tools such as Salesforce, HubSpot, Outreach, and Gong. You will also have regular opportunities to experiment with AI, automation, and tools such as n8n, Zapier, Clay, and Claude Code/Cowork.

Success in this role means making Axial’s GTM organization more productive, data-informed, and operationally consistent. Over time, you will be expected to identify opportunities independently and own solutions from diagnosis through implementation.

Axial is a fast-paced environment. It is important that you quickly develop broad subject-matter expertise, take ownership of initiatives, and demonstrate sound judgment, high ethical standards, and an ability to collaborate across teams. The core of this role is someone who is enthusiastic, a quick learner, a critical thinker, and a proactive source of new ideas.

Responsibilities

  • GTM Systems Enablement: Use systems such as Salesforce, HubSpot, Outreach, Gong, and related tools to strengthen Axial’s go-to-market motions. Improve configuration, internal training, workflows, and data hygiene to increase the accuracy, efficiency, and consistency of day-to-day GTM execution.
  • Workflow Automation: Build and maintain automations that improve productivity and create more consistent GTM processes. Use tools such as n8n, Zapier, Clay, and Claude Code/Cowork to connect systems, enrich data, streamline recurring work, and support scalable execution across the GTM organization.
  • Reporting: Improve visibility across the member journey, from acquisition and onboarding through engagement and retention, by building and maintaining robust reporting. Your work will help teams better understand performance, identify opportunities, and deliver a more consistent and valuable member experience.
  • Data Analysis: Use data to answer important business questions and support strategic decision-making across our go-to-market efforts. Identify meaningful trends, develop actionable insights and recommendations, and present findings clearly to facilitate informed discussion.
  • Strategic Targeting and Campaign Operations: Support Axial’s growth by building targeted account and contact lists that support successful outreach campaigns. Analyze market segments to identify and prioritize high-value opportunities across industries, geographies, and member cohorts. You will also contribute to campaign strategy and the writing of outreach messaging.
  • Special Projects: Own cross-functional projects that require strong analysis, thoughtful project management, and creative problem-solving. Evaluate new tools and approaches, improve existing processes, and support strategic initiatives that strengthen Axial’s execution and operational efficiency.

Qualifications

  • Experience: 2–5 years of professional experience in Business or GTM Operations, finance, consulting, or another analytical and execution-oriented role. We will also consider exceptional candidates from sales or customer success who have demonstrated strong analytical ability, operational ownership, and cross-functional problem-solving.
  • Technical Skills: Strong proficiency in Excel or Google Sheets, including formulas, data manipulation, and analysis. Experience with SQL, business intelligence tools, APIs, or other technical tools is a plus, but not required.
  • GTM Systems: Experience with Salesforce, GTM systems, workflow automation, or similar business tools is preferred but not required. More important is demonstrated technical curiosity and a track record of quickly learning unfamiliar systems.
  • Analytical Horsepower: Able to structure ambiguous problems, analyze complex information, identify the most important insights, and translate them into practical recommendations and actions.
  • Business Judgment: Able to understand business objectives, evaluate tradeoffs, prioritize effectively, and make thoughtful decisions without requiring constant direction.
  • Project Management and Ownership: Demonstrated ability to independently plan and execute projects from definition through implementation and follow-through. Comfortable managing multiple priorities, communicating progress, and surfacing blockers early.
  • Communication and Collaboration: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to understand stakeholder needs, present ideas clearly, and work effectively across teams.
  • Past Performance: A track record of exceptional performance, increasing responsibility, and consistently high-quality execution.

What We Do

Axial (axial.net) operates the largest marketplace on the internet for buying, selling, and financing American small businesses (businesses with $5M-$100M in revenues). Over 20,000 professional investors, M&A advisors and CEOs use Axial's tools, data, and marketplace to source, manage and execute small business M&A transactions. Axial members have closed over 2,500 deals since 2010, amounting to more than $25 Billion in closed transaction volume. Market Overview At the core of the US economy are "lower middle market" businesses - businesses generating $5M to $100M in revenue. In the US alone, there are over 350,000 companies in this size range. These small businesses are neither large enough to go public, nor are they able to attract great advice from national or global investment banks. In addition, the wholesale absence of reliable data on transactions and market participants has made this the most broken underperforming segment of private capital markets. Axial is transforming the status quo in this capital market, providing companies, their trusted advisors, and their capital partners with high quality purpose-built tools, unique data, and marketplace infrastructure. Below are the values we subscribe to as a company: -- Obsess Over Member Trust: Your daily choices reflect your awareness that we facilitate vital life-altering transactions. You take this responsibility seriously and it’s top of mind. -- Expect and Deliver Excellence: You demonstrate consistency so that your colleagues feel confident partnering and relying on you. You demonstrate a personal commitment to continuous improvement. -- Communication Matters: You are concise and articulate in your communication, external or internal. You listen well and genuinely. -- Invent and Simplify: You are open-minded, looking for great new ideas that can elevate and even transform the member experience. You find novel ways to simplify complex status quos. -- Be an Owner: You think about the long-term effects of your decisions. You invest real time in building relationships with your colleagues.
