As a Business Management Team member, you will play a pivotal role in steering the profitability of a specific category within our business. Whether it is bacon, ham, fresh pork, or another of our diverse categories, you'll collaborate cross-functionally with our sales team and plant operations to ensure we deliver the finest products to our customers and consumers.

In this position, you will develop and execute comprehensive plans and programs for a distinct product, brand, or significant market segment. You'll oversee the profitability and financial performance of a specific product category, taking full ownership of the category's P&L. Additionally, you will drive the creation and enhancement of new and existing products, aligning with our company's business and marketing goals.

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

  • Financial Responsibilities: You will be responsible for meeting the overall company price and volume budgets for the fiscal year within outlined parameters, ensuring that volumes are met within targeted growth. You will manage all pricing activities to maximize profit potential, while also meeting product group/product line profitability objectives based on the specified budget. Additionally, you will oversee the total P&L for a major product group, which includes managing sales volume, sales dollars, cost of goods, gross margin, shuttle and storage expenses, plant variances, direct marketing expenses, net contribution, and profit before taxes.

  • Sales and Communication: You will serve as the primary contact for the Sales team, where you will communicate product specifications, inventory levels, pricing, costing, and lead time requirements. You will be responsible for developing strong communication with other functional areas and departments.

  • Product Management: You will be responsible for Product and Price Management, negotiating, reviewing, and approving pricing and trade agreements. You will participate in and evaluate market research, promotions, public relations, and advertising initiatives. You will attend product reviews to compare the execution of written specifications and gain insight into what drives variances and yield to the standards.

  • Expertise: You will be considered the category expert over a specific segment of the business.

  • Leadership: Drives a positive employee experience through leadership by way of employee development and coaching.

WHAT WE’RE SEEKING:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.   • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four-year college or university in Business or related field and 5+ years’ relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience, required.

  • 2+ years of demonstrated experience in team management/development or project leadership, required.

  • Must understand the dynamics of the Consumer-Packaged Goods industry.

  • Must have a solid understanding of customer focused and fact-based selling techniques, which may include IRI, Neilsen and Perishable Group data.

  • Energized by travel 30% of the time.

  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

  • High level of written and verbal communication skills, organizational planning, teamwork, analytical reasoning, and adaptability.

  • Knowledge and experience with Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint.

  • Ability to work well with others in fast paced, dynamic environment.

  • Ability to be respectful, approachable and team oriented while building strong working relationships and a positive work environment.

OTHER SKILLS THAT MAKE YOU STAND OUT:

  • SAP experience, preferred.

  • Experience managing product with short shelf life

The expected pay range for this position is $95,000 - $130,000 annually.

Smithfield Foods provides pay ranges that reflect its good faith estimate of the salary or hourly wage the company reasonably expects to pay for a position at the time of hire. Individual compensation will be determined based on several factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the role, location of the position, the candidate’s qualifications and experience, internal equity, external market pay for comparable positions and budget considerations.
