Business Intelligence Engineer

Job Brief
We are looking for a highly skilled and driven BI Engineer to augment our growing team The ideal candidate will bring over 4 years of experience in the Business Intelligence domain, with proven expertise in data modelling and dashboard development using Power BI, Qlik Sense. In addition to creating dynamic, insight- rich dashboards, you’ll be responsible for implementing embedded analytics and automated email-based reporting solutions to expand BI reach and usability across the business. This role requires a blend of strong technical skills, analytical thinking, and communication abilities to turn data into strategic insights and drive business performance.

Key Responsibilities:
Business facing.

• Act as the first line of support for BI and reporting-related queries from functional teams.
• Interpret business needs into KPIS—modifying or creating reports and dashboards accordingly.
• Provide data-driven support to decision-makers by delivering accurate, insightful, and timely reports.

Ad-Hoc Reporting & Data Requests

• Handle ad-hoc data extraction and reporting requests using SQL, Excel, or BI tools.
• Build and maintain standard and recurring reports for key departments including Sales, Finance, and Operations.

Data Modelling & Transformation

•  Familiar with data models design (e.g., star/snowflake schemas) to support BI tools and self service analytics.
• Collaborate with Data Engineers to ensure accurate, timely, and accessible data for reporting and analysis.

Dashboard Development & Visualization

• Build visually compelling and high-performance dashboards in Power BI, Qlik Sense, and Looker.
• Standardize report components, layouts, and KPIs for consistent stakeholder experience.

Embedded & Email-Based BI Reporting

• Develop and maintain embedded analytics for seamless integration of dashboards into internal and external applications (web portals, intranets).
• Set up and manage automated email reporting workflows, enabling scheduled insights distribution to various business units.
• Ensure proper access control, security, and performance tuning of embedded and email-delivered content.

Analytical Insights & Communication

• Work closely with business users to understand reporting needs, define metrics, and deliver actionable insights.
• Present findings and data stories in a clear, engaging, and business-friendly manner.

Technical Implementation & Scripting

• Write optimized SQL queries for data extraction and transformation.
• Utilize Python for data automation, manipulation, and advanced analytics where needed.
• Leverage Advanced Excel for ad-hoc reporting and analysis.

Collaboration & Documentation

• Engage with Product, Engineering, and Business teams to gather requirements and roll out BI solutions.
• Maintain detailed documentation of data sources, reports, metrics definitions, and processes.

Required Qualifications & Experience:

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Information Systems, or related field.
• 4+ years of professional experience in a Business Intelligence or Data Analyst role.
• Hands-on experience with Power BI or Qlik Sense.
• Deep understanding of data modelling, data warehousing, and ETL/ELT workflows.
• Strong SQL skills across various data platforms.
• Proficiency in Python, Advanced Excel
• Demonstrated experience with email reporting and embedded BI (e.g., embedding dashboards in web apps).
• Excellent analytical thinking, attention to detail, and problem-solving capabilities.
• Strong presentation skills and the ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP) and modern data stacks.
• Able to catch up with on prem data platforms (vertica, talend, qlickview)
• Familiarity with version control tools (e.g., Git) and Agile development methodologies.
