The Data Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining scalable, secure, and efficient data extraction, transformation, loading (ETL/ELT), and orchestration processes that support analytical workflows, data products, and data-driven decision-making across the organization. The primary goal is to ensure the availability, timeliness, and integrity of data while working closely with members of the Data & Artificial Intelligence team and other business units.
To succeed in this role, the individual should have strong analytical skills and the ability to combine data from multiple sources. Data engineering skills also include familiarity with several programming languages and knowledge of machine methods.
Duties and Responsabilities
- Design and develop cloud-based data extraction, transformation, loading (ETL/ELT), and orchestration pipelines using tools such as AWS Glue, Lambda, and Step Functions, enduring data required for analytics and business needs meets availability, timeliness, and integrity standards.
- Support the maintenance of the Data Lake, ensuring its proper structure, successful ingestion processes, and availability of reliable data.
- Contribute to the design and development of the Data Warehouse in Amazon Redshift.
- Ensure new designs within the Data Warehouse follow established architectural standards and that their usage and associated costs are optimized.
- Integrate data from multiple sources of truth.
- Build and maintain high-performance ETL/ELT pipelines using PySpark or Python, ensuring optimal execution and processing times.
- Support the maintenance and structuring of the AWS Glue Data Catalog.
- Design and implement validation processes to ensure proper usage of Amazon S3, enforcing established standards and optimizing associated storage costs.
- Optimize query performance in Amazon Athena, Redshift, and other data consumption tools.
- Document and submit all developed processes for approval in accordance with the project’s blueprint and data governance standards.
Qualifications
- Degree in Computer Science, IT, or similar field; a Master’s is a plus.
- Experience in cloud/based data architecture, preferably on AWS.
- Knowledge of both relational and non-relational databases.
- Proficiency in SQL, Python, and PySpark.
- Experience with ETL tools such as SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS), AWS Glue, Amazon Athena, Redshift, and S3.
- Proven experience in data modeling and implementation of scalable data solutions.
- Strong numerical and analytical skills.
- Must be detail oriented.
- Excellent organizational skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work well individually and within a team.
