Business Intelligence Analyst

📝 About the Role

We’re looking for a Business Intelligence Analyst to help turn growing volumes of product, revenue, and operational data into clear, trusted insights for the business. This role will partner closely with the VP of Business Intelligence and work across Revenue, Marketing, Finance, Product, and Customer Success.

This is a hands-on role for someone who enjoys building reliable datasets, answering real business questions, and improving how teams use data day to day. You’ll spend time both responding to requests and helping us move toward more proactive, forward-looking insights.

⭐ What You’ll Do

  • Build and maintain core reporting datasets in BigQuery

  • Write clear, efficient SQL to support dashboards, analyses, and ad-hoc requests

  • Partner with stakeholders to understand questions, define metrics, and deliver answers that are easy to act on

  • Support revenue and marketing analytics, including funnel performance, activations, retention, and churn

  • Help standardize definitions and metrics so teams are working from the same numbers

  • Contribute to dashboards and reporting in tools like Looker or Google Sheets

  • Assist with data validation, QA, and troubleshooting when numbers don’t line up

  • Document logic, assumptions, and data sources so analyses are repeatable and trusted

  • Support ongoing improvements to our data models and pipelines as the Business Intelligence function matures

What success looks like

  • Stakeholders trust your numbers and come back to you with follow-up questions

  • Dashboards and reports are accurate, understandable, and maintained over time

  • You can take a loosely defined question and turn it into a clear analysis with minimal direction with guidance from the VP of Business Intelligence

  • You reduce repeat questions by building reusable views, metrics, or dashboards

  • You help the Business Intelligence team spend less time fixing data and more time generating insight

What we’re looking for

  • 2–4 years of experience in business intelligence, analytics, or a related role

  • Strong SQL skills and comfort working directly in a data warehouse

  • Experience working with cloud data platforms such as BigQuery or Snowflake

  • Familiarity with Business Intelligence tools like Looker, Tableau, or similar

  • Comfort working with messy or evolving data and asking the right clarifying questions

  • Ability to explain analysis clearly to non-technical partners

  • Strong attention to detail and a healthy skepticism of numbers that don’t make sense

Nice to have

  • Experience supporting SaaS, proptech, fintech, or marketplace businesses

  • Exposure to systems like NetSuite or SalesForce

  • Exposure to data pipelines or ELT tools

  • Some experience with Python for analysis or automation

  • Prior work supporting revenue, marketing, or customer success teams

Why this role matters

Second Nature is investing in data as a strategic asset. This role is a chance to help shape how analytics is done across the company, work closely with leadership, and grow alongside a maturing Business Intelligence function. You’ll have ownership, visibility, and the opportunity to influence how decisions get made.

Key Outcomes for the First 90 Days

First 30 days

  • Complete onboarding across data tools (BigQuery, Looker, Google Sheets) and successfully run existing core queries without errors

  • Demonstrate understanding of key business metrics by accurately explaining at least 5 commonly used KPIs (e.g., CARR, Active Units, activation, churn)

  • Fulfill at least 2 ad-hoc data requests with correct results and documented logic

  • Validate at least 2 existing dashboards or reports by reconciling outputs to source data

By 60 days

  • Independently own 1–2 recurring reports or dashboards, including basic QA and ongoing updates

  • Write SQL that passes review for production use

  • Partner with one functional team (e.g., Finance, Revenue, Marketing, or Customer Success) to deliver an analysis from question to final output

  • Identify and document at least 3 data quality issues, metric inconsistencies, or opportunities for clarification

By 90 days

  • Support stakeholders with minimal day-to-day guidance on common reporting needs

  • Deliver at least one insight that leads to a concrete action (e.g., follow-up with a client segment, adjustment to a campaign or metric, change in reporting focus)

  • Improve or simplify one existing report, dataset, or query in a way that reduces manual effort or repeat questions

  • Contribute to written documentation for at least 5 core metrics, tables, or recurring reports
