General Summary:The Business Development Transactions, Sr Director will be responsible for leading/supporting cross-functional technical and corporate due diligence efforts and the negotiation and execution of a range of business development transactions, including collaborations, licenses, financings, mergers and acquisitions, all aimed at helping Vertex achieve its strategic objectives and create sustained revenue and earnings growth.Key Duties and Responsibilities:- Leads large cross-functional technical and corporate diligence teams
- Prepare diligence read-outs reflecting technical, financial and corporate analyses of potential partners/targets and potential impacts on Vertex
- Collaborate with relevant stakeholders to develop proposals for structuring and negotiating a range of deals
- Solicit internal feedback on deal issues and ensure feedback is incorporated into deal documents in a manner that addresses Vertex's business needs and appropriately balances risks
- Actively track issues in deal documents and develops thoughtful solutions
- Provide input in the development of negotiation strategy and leads or supports counterparty negotiations
- Prepare supporting documentation for transactions, including external presentations, management presentations, investor materials and Board presentations
- Work seamlessly with the External Innovation team in their identification and technical evaluation of potential opportunities and the Alliance Management team in their integration and management of collaborative relationships
- Contribute positively to the culture of a small, mission-oriented, collegial team
- In-depth knowledge of the drug research and development process and the regulatory, reimbursement and commercial environments
- Ability to understand technical diligence and synthesize outputs into concise, clear business case for executive leaders
- Able to think creatively and strategically to identify deal issues and mitigation strategies
- Adept at handling multiple projects and tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail
- Comfortable reading and understanding complex legal agreements
- Ability to work cross-functionally within and beyond the Business Development organization -- Experience working with both internal and external multidisciplinary teams including R&D, Commercial, Legal, IP, Finance and Operations
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and ability to think on your feet
- Ability to prepare clear and influential power point presentations
- High emotional intelligence and ability to forge relationships internally, as well as externally.

- Bachelor’s degree required; advanced scientific degree strongly preferred
Required Experience - 10+ years relevant biotech experience, deal sheet demonstrating experience and specific roles
- Ability to advise on and make risk-informed business decisions appropriate for level

Pay Range:

The range provided is based on what we believe is a reasonable estimate for the base salary pay range for this job at the time of posting. This role is eligible for an annual bonus and annual equity awards. Some roles may also be eligible for overtime pay, in accordance with federal and state requirements. Actual base salary pay will be based on a number of factors, including skills, competencies, experience, and other job-related factors permitted by law.
