ABOUT THE ROLE

At haku, our Business Development Representatives help create the conversations that lead to new customer relationships.

We’re looking for a curious, resourceful, and motivated BDR to help accelerate our growth within the nonprofit market. You’ll connect with organizations to understand their fundraising challenges and introduce how haku can help them strengthen supporter relationships, simplify operations, and raise more.

This is a prospecting-focused role. You’ll research target accounts, initiate conversations through phone, email, and LinkedIn, qualify assigned inbound leads, and partner closely with Account Executives to turn relevant conversations into qualified sales opportunities.

Success requires more than a high volume of outreach. It takes thoughtful preparation, clear communication, consistent follow-through, and a willingness to learn and improve. You’ll be accountable for generating qualified meetings and contributing to pipeline growth while creating a positive first impression of haku.

This role is ideal for someone who wants to build a career in technology sales, enjoys initiating conversations, and is motivated by both individual results and shared team success.

YOUR LIFE AT HAKU

Our state-of-the-art office overlooking Biscayne Bay in Miami is home to a thoughtful, collaborative, and ambitious team that genuinely enjoys working together.

We care deeply about our customers, our teammates, and building great technology. We move fast, challenge each other respectfully, and celebrate wins together.

You’ll have the opportunity to build your prospecting, qualification, and consultative selling skills while working alongside experienced sales professionals and contributing directly to haku’s growth.

As a member of the haku team, you’ll enjoy:

  • Flexible PTO and paid holidays
  • Comprehensive benefits, including health, dental, vision, short-term disability, long-term disability, and life insurance
  • 401(k) with employer matching after 90 days
  • Paid parental leave for birthing and non-birthing parents after one year
  • Professional development reimbursement after six months
  • Monthly credit toward wellness activities, including fitness, meal plans, and mental health expenses
  • Access to wellness subscriptions, mental health resources, and financial planning platforms
  • Discounted pet insurance and voluntary life insurance, plus exclusive employee discounts through Perkspot
  • Company-paid parking in the heart of Brickell
  • State-of-the-art Apple computer and accessories
  • Wellness activities, happy hours, and company events
  • On-site gym and wellness center, fully stocked kitchen, and premium office amenities

WHAT YOU'LL DO

Research and Engage Target Accounts

Identify nonprofit organizations and relevant decision-makers, research their fundraising programs and priorities, and develop outreach that gives them a compelling reason to connect.

Execute consistent outbound prospecting through cold calls, personalized emails, and LinkedIn. Balance thoughtful preparation with the daily activity needed to create new conversations.

Qualify Interest and Create Sales Opportunities

Respond promptly to assigned inbound leads and engage outbound prospects in conversations about their needs, current approach, challenges, and timing.

Ask thoughtful questions, handle initial objections, and determine whether a deeper conversation with haku is warranted. Generate qualified meetings that meet our qualification criteria and are accepted by Account Executives.

Own Follow-Up and Next Steps

Maintain consistent, relevant follow-up with prospects rather than relying on a single message or sequence.

Re-engage organizations whose timing was not right, confirm upcoming meetings, follow up on missed connections, and keep clear next steps so promising conversations do not fall through the cracks.

Partner Closely With Account Executives

Work with Account Executives to prioritize target accounts, develop outreach plans, and identify ways to engage high-value prospects.

Prepare AEs for discovery calls with relevant account research, stakeholder context, documented challenges, and a clear understanding of what prompted the prospect’s interest.

Improve Our Prospecting Approach

Collaborate with Sales and Marketing to execute campaigns, test messaging, and improve response rates, meeting conversion, and opportunity quality.

Stay informed about nonprofit fundraising trends and share recurring questions, objections, and competitive insights with the team. Use sales technology and AI thoughtfully to improve research and execution without sacrificing accuracy or relevance.

Maintain Strong Execution and Accountability

Keep contact information, outreach activity, qualification notes, and next steps accurate and current in HubSpot.

Manage your daily priorities, consistently achieve prospecting and qualified-meeting targets, and contribute to pipeline creation goals. Use performance data and feedback to understand what is working and adjust your approach.

WHO YOU ARE

You are curious about how organizations operate and motivated to understand their challenges before introducing a solution.

You enjoy connecting with new people, communicate clearly, and are willing to pick up the phone. You understand that prospecting involves rejection and unanswered messages, and you can stay consistent without becoming impersonal or overly persistent.

You take ownership of your work, follow through on commitments, and ask for help when you need it. You welcome feedback and put it into practice.

Most importantly, you are serious about developing your sales skills and contributing to a team that cares about both results and the customer experience.

Qualifications

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to listen carefully, ask relevant questions, and explain ideas clearly
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage outreach, follow-up, and competing priorities without sacrificing quality
  • Willingness to make cold calls, initiate conversations, and develop confidence handling objections
  • Resourcefulness, resilience, and accountability for your activity and results
  • Ability to learn new technology and work effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative environment
  • Genuine interest in building a career in technology sales

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience as a BDR, SDR, or in another prospecting-focused sales role
  • Experience using HubSpot or another CRM, sales engagement tools, or LinkedIn for prospecting
  • Experience in SaaS, fundraising, nonprofit organizations, CRM, or nonprofit technology

Prior nonprofit or BDR experience is a plus, but curiosity, communication skills, coachability, and consistent execution matter just as much.
